Sandra Jane Keller

Sandra Jane Keller, 79, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at her home, under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Funeral services are private with the Green Funeral Home Gouverneur and burial in Spragueville Cemetery. A celebration of life will be announced and held in healthier times to honor Sandra.

Sandra was born in Gouverneur, the daughter of Donald and Elizabeth (Kerwin) Gillette.

She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1961 and attended the Beauarts School of Beauty Culture in Syracuse.

Sandra married Robert Keller on October 26, 1963 at the home of her mother.

She worked as a hairdresser many years, was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and Gouverneur Senior Citizens, enjoyed playing bingo and watching television, especially figure skating. Sandra also liked dancing, enjoyed a margarita now and then, and was known for her driving a Lincoln Continental.

Sandra is survived by her daughter Kathlene McIntosh and her husband Marty, her grandchildren Tara Nichols and her husband Anthony, Eliza McIntosh, Robert McIntosh and his companion Brandi, and her great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws Eudora Brown, Darlene Hastings, Mary Gillette Fishbech, Gary and Cheryl Keller, several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents Donald and Elizabeth, her husband Robert, her step parents Marlene Gillette and Charles Lortscher, her brother Donald Gillette Jr., her brothers-in-law Richard Brown and John Hastings.

Donald “Donnie” Walker

Donald "Donnie" Walker, 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Funeral services are private at the Green Funeral Home in Gouverneur, NY. The burial is planned for this summer at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, NY with a celebration of life following the ceremony.

Donnie touched the hearts of so many people in the Gouverneur community. He was always compassionate and respectful to everyone. He was born in Gouverneur on Tuesday, November 18, 1941, the son of Albert Isaac Walker and Jessie Naomi (Jenkins) Walker.

He grew up on the Walker Farm on Walker Road in Richville, next to the Richville Flats. He learned the value of hard work with the many choirs on their dairy farm.

Donnie married Gloria Starnes on October 20, 1962. Donnie worked at Mercer’s Dairy, St. Joe Mines and owned several real estate properties. Later in life, Donnie and Gloria owned a dairy farm in Richville and Walker’s Antiques in Gouverneur.

He enjoyed spending time at his camp and with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the S&B Hunting Club in Russell.

Donnie is survived by his wife of almost sixty years Gloria, his children Thomas and his wife Gina of Boston, Massachusetts, Tammy and her husband Scott Cummings of Gouverneur, John and his wife Jennifer of Ogdensburg, his grandchildren, Justin Cummings, Kara Cummings, Joshua Walker, Jessica Walker, Christine Walker, Katelyn Walker, Gianna Walker and great grandchildren, Ryan Collette and Madison Collette. He is also survived by his sisters Anne Roy of Massena, Roxie Grimshaw of Zephyrhills, Florida, many nieces and nephews. Don is predeceased by his parents and his brother Rodney Walker.

Ethel I. Newcombe

Ethel I. Newcombe, 89, of Richville, died on December 18, 2020, at the Gouverneur Hospital, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, has been entrusted with arrangements.

There were calling hours, Monday, December 21, 12 – 2 PM, social distancing and face masks were required. A private family service followed with the burial at the Old DeKalb Cemetery, Old DeKalb, NY.

Ethel is survived by her siblings, Howard and his wife Marion Newcombe of DeKalb, Joseph and his wife Marilyn Newcombe of Rock Fall, CT, Charles and his wife Barbara Newcombe of Edwards, Lawrence and his wife Pamela Newcombe of Glenn Falls, Mary Ames of Canton, Ilene Cole and her companion Ivan Gordon of Ogdensburg, a sister in law, Helen Newcombe of Rensselear Falls, a brother in law Neal Newvine of Amenia, NY, 16 nephews and 15 nieces.

She was predeceased by her companion Murray Miller, siblings, Edward “Earl” Newcombe, Floyde Newcombe, and Dorothy Newvine.

She was born on January 4, 1931 in Heuvelton, to the late, Lawrence and Marion Bush Newcombe. She graduated from Richville High School in 1949 and then graduated in 1950 from the Ogdensburg Business School. Ethel was a bank teller at the Community Bank in Gouverneur until her retirement December 31, 1997 after 31 years. She was a life member of the DeKalb Hermon and Gouverneur Senior Citizens Clubs, and the E. J. Noble Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to knit, crochet and play bingo.

Joseph D. “Joe” Hunter Jr.

Joseph D. “Joe” Hunter Jr., 55, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Gouverneur Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 19th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Time Out Lodge in Fowler. Funeral services are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Joseph was born in Watertown on June 18, 1965, the son of Joseph and Ann Marie (Augustine) Hunter.

He graduated from Watertown High School and married his wife Laura on May 31, 1986.

Joe began working for Green Machine in 1984 and eventually became part owner of the company which eventually became Heritage Knife Company in Balmat. The couple also had other business ventures which included the opening of the Time Out Lounge in 2011.

Joe was a member of the local American Legion and enjoyed fishing, especially off his boat and near his father’s place in Fisher’s Landing. He also liked to cook, often comparing recipes with others, vintage stereo equipment on which he often cranked up classic rock, rooting on his beloved Buffalo Bills, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Laura, his two children Alicia and Joey, his grandchildren Michael, Tucker, James, Rowan, and Luca. Joe is also survived by his father Joe and his companion Phyllis, his four sisters Bonnie, Patti, Judy, and Tammy, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Ann.

Olivia Jean (White) Moran

Olivia Jean (White) Moran, age 41, of Plato, MO, passed away December 7, 2020 at Columbia, MO after a brief illness. She was born October 12, 1979 in Carthage, NY to Gary White and Donna Kinney Bourcy.

Olivia grew up in Spragueville, NY and attended school at Gouverneur and graduated High School in 1998. She married Wayne L Moran on January 6, 2006 in Lorraine, NY and raised two sons, Antonny Forrest, and Wayne Andrew.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Forrest Kinney, and a niece, Alivia. She is survived by her husband, Wayne of the home in Plato, MO; two sons, Antonny Forrest Moran, and Wayne Andrew Moran of Plato; her parents, Gary White of NY, and her mother, Donna Bourcy of NY; two sisters, Jessica Norris of Georgia, and Wendy Pyatt of Missouri; two grandmothers; and a grandfather; five nieces and three nephews; and three stepsisters of NY.

Olivia was a member of Plato Christian Church.

Olivia was a domestic engineer, where she excelled in taking care of her husband, her sons, and her home. She loved baking, singing, four wheeling, board games, and bon fires. She had a passion for life and color, as you could tell from her many vivid colors of hair. For those who knew her, knew she loved to laugh, joke, and smile. The following statement is something she found extremely funny and loved to share to get a laugh, and for those that did not will learn something new. Did you know that when a whale farts, it smells like fish, and a horse could fit in the bubble it creates?

She was a beautiful soul who impacted many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen L. Stacy

Helen L. Stacy, age 81, of Gouverneur, passed away on November 21, 2020 in United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton.

Helen was born on April 28, 1939 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Robert and Gartha (Stevens) Stacy. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School. She married Carlton H. Simmons Sr. on September 1, 1957. The couple were married for 37 years, until they divorced.

She cleaned at Pine Camp, and then also when it became Fort Drum. She was also a bus driver for LaForty and then Indian River Central School, retiring in 1976. She loved her cats, doing puzzles, knitting, traveling and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is two sons, Carlton and Flo Simmons Jr. and Stanley and Diane Simmons; a daughter, Malinda Bright; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Helen is predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Sue Main; a son-in-law, Richard Bright; two brothers, Harold and Herbert Stacy and two sisters, Shirley Taylor and Marion Davis.

Frederick Colton

Frederick F. Colton, age 76, of Gouverneur, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Frederick was born on August 13, 1944 in Canton, NY to the late Frederick and Alice (Whitmarsh) Colton. He graduated from Knox Memorial Central School in Russell in 1964 and then entered into the United States Army and served during Vietnam until his honorable discharge.

He married Cheryl Hodgdon on July 3, 1965 at the Russell United Methodist Church. He worked at Natural Dam Paper Mill as a machine tender and electrician from 1965 until his retirement in 2009. He loved being on Sylvia Lake, going on boat rides, riding the golf cart around and spending time with the grandchildren. He was often seen at the grandchildren’s sporting events, as there was rarely a game of theirs that he would miss.

Fred is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two sons, Shawn and Krisi Colton of Syracuse and Shannon and Stacey Colton of Central Square; two daughters, Sara Colton of Watertown and Staci and Luke Hayden of Gouverneur; a sister, Linda Markell of Prescott, Ontario and nine grandchildren, Tyrell Thomas, Chelsea Colton, Tyler Colton, Ryan Colton, Tate Colton, Jordan Hayden, Jimmy Hayden, Colton Hayden and Sophi Hayden.

Fred is predeceased by a sister, Beverly Monroe.

Carlton “Punk” Woods

Carlton “Punk” Woods, 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 22nd at 2:00 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery in Richville with Karen Taylor, pastor of the United Church of Richville officiating.

Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home in Gouverneur.

Carlton was born in Gouverneur on August 13, 1943, the son of Worth B. and Ilene (Jeffers) Woods.

He married Patricia Brown on May 22, 1970 in Gouverneur.

Upon graduation from Gouverneur High School in 1961, he co-owned and operated Richville Fuel Company from 1961 until retirement in 2001. Punk and his brother also owned C&E Woods General Store in Richville.

The couple enjoyed spending winters in Davenport, FL, camping and horseback riding at Otter Creek. Punk also enjoyed bowling, playing golf and softball, rooting for the New York Yankees and his children and grandchildren at their sporting events as well as other family activities. He loved to fix things, especially old junk and tinkering on cars.

Punk was a past member and chief of the Richville Vol. Fire Department, Richville Masonic Lodge, Gouverneur Elks, Richville Village Board of Trustees, and the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Town of DeKalb.

He is survived by his children Wendy and Jeff Gibson, Allison Woods, Darren and Becky VanOrnum, his foster children Laura McCormick and Robin Hilyard, his grandchildren Ryan, Dylan, and Kaitlyn Gibson, Carlee, Elaina, and Laike Lumley, Jacob and Brittany VanOrnum, Darien and Kreg Jackson, and Stan Velker, great grandchildren Logan and Hudson, and his brother Edward Woods. Carlton is predeceased by his wife Pat who passed away on March 21, 2013 and his parents.

Richard D. Perrin

Richard “Dick” D. Perrin passed away on November 20, 2020 at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego, NY. Richard was born on May 24, 1933 in Gouverneur, NY, the son of the late Roswell and Beatrice Perrin. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1951 and later married Joan Hance on November 27, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur, NY. She predeceased him in July of 2019.

Richard served in the US Air Force for 21 years including service in the Korean War. He retired as Chief Master SGT in 1974. Richard and Joan then moved to Antwerp, NY and he worked for Key Bank. He retired from Key Bank as the branch manager in Gouverneur, NY. Following his retirement, Richard and Joan enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and summers at their camp on Lake Bonaparte.

Richard is survived by his son John (Martha) Perrin of Oswego, NY, two sisters, Joanne McQuade and Nancy (Robert) Fuller, one brother, Peter (Nancy) Perrin and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two sisters Annette Phelps and Lida Perrin, two brothers Robert and Walter Perrin and two infant siblings Sally and Robert.

Cynthia Anne Maier Krutell

Cynthia Anne Maier Krutell passed away on October 28, 2020. She leaves behind sisters Patricia (Edward) Sullivan of MA and Jacqueline Hartle of Gouverneur and a brother K Micheal Maier of FL, along with many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Gouverneur in 1956 then continued her education at the U of R School of Nursing graduating in 1959 and pursued her masters later. After retiring, Cindy opened one of the first adult day care centers called the Gold Club with her friend Carol Dodge. After her second retirement, she wintered in Palm Harbor, FL. Services will be held in FL. She will sadly be missed by her many friends and family.

James R. “Jim” Forsythe

James R. “Jim” Forsythe, 70, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 21st from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur, and a private graveside service will be held at East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.

James was born in Watertown on January 5, 1950, the son of John J. and Ilene (Hollister) Forsythe.

Upon graduating from high school, Jim began a career in the construction field from which he retired from as a construction superintendent for Bette & Cring LLC of Watertown.

He married Terry A. Tracey on January 23, 1971 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church.

The couple enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, playing golf, and their time spent in their home at Sylvia Lake. Jim enjoyed shooting pool, was an avid outdoorsman hunting, fishing, and spending time with the boys at camp in Croghan. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife Terry, his children Joseph and Kim Forsythe of Gouverneur, Tracey and Brady Wood of Rossie, Timothy Forsythe of Gouverneur, his grandchildren Noah and Kate Forsythe, Brayden and Hyde Wood, and Courtney Forsythe, his brother John and Judith Forsythe of Manlius, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents John and Ilene, a sister Lorrie I. McIntosh, and a granddaughter Bailey R. Wood.

Richard D. Bright

Born in Rome, NY as Duane Edward Parsons, unknown parents, taken in with his sister by Beatrix and Edward Bright, foster parents. Then Duane was adopted by Beatrix and Edward Bright on November 13, 1954, changing his name to Richard Douglas Bright. It is unknown where his sister went.

Richard, also known as Dick, did many jobs. He was a toy salesman, car salesman, truck driver, snowplow driver, and snow removal, bartender, mechanic and machinist in different departments at New York Air Brake for years. The best thing he liked was working on steam parts for trains at Air Brake.

Richard loved steam trains, teddy bears, horses, his wife and children, and helping others.

Funeral will be private due to COVID. He will be buried at Jerusalem Cemetery in Canton, NY. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Richard is survived by wife, Malinda Simmons Bright; four children: Christopher and Sara (children Shia and Chloe Bright); MandyBeth (children Micah and Malici Bright); AmberBeth and Dustin (children Ceyonna and Akeira Harmer); Robert (children Haiden and Karson Bright).

Richard was predeceased by adopted mother, Beatrix W. Bright, and father, Edward H. Bright.

Judith A. Desormeaux

Judith A. Desormeaux, 79, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Gouverneur Hospital with her family at her side.

Funeral services are private at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur, NY.

Judy was born on February 1, 1941, the daughter of Edward and Hazel (McDonald) Narrow.

She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1959 and attended nursing school.

David and Judy were married on September 11, 1971.

Judy was a mother, a homemaker, and had served two terms as the Antwerp Town Clerk.

She enjoyed time spent in her flower garden, reading books, especially by Stephen King and Dean Koontz, cooking/baking, and was a member of the Gouverneur Business Women. Judy also enjoyed spending time with family and enjoyed the holidays, especially Halloween. She was a member of the choir for the Christmas cantata, celebrated at the Presbyterian Church annually.

Judy is survived by her loving husband David, her children Joe and Tara, Bruce and Claudia, and Torie, her grandchildren Reagan, Saree, Anna, Jada, Arizona, Zachery, and her great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and her special friends Amy and Diane. Judy is predeceased by her parents Ed and Hazel, her two daughters Trina and Millette, and her brother Fred Narrow.

Gary E. Simmons

Gary E. Simmons, age 78, of Dryden passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at home, surrounded by family.

Gary was born on January 23, 1942 in Gouverneur, NY to Harold and Rosetta Simmons. Gary graduated from Gouverneur Junior-Senior High School, class of 1960. After graduation Gary continued his education studying at Broome Community College and SUNY Canton. Gary was employed by New York State Electric and Gas for 38 years retiring as the Supervisor of Technical Operations in Ithaca.

Gary was a devoted father and grandfather and his greatest pride was his family. Gary is survived by his five children; Kelly (Bob) Tiddick, Jeff (Jolene) Simmons, Randy (Jo Ann) Simmons, Tracey (Fred) Bachner, and Gary (Ashley Huey) Simmons. Gary is also survived by ten grandchildren; Dillon, Dustin, and Maddison (Joe Murcko) Tiddick, Brandon Simmons, Lillian, Frederick, Claudia, and Joseph Bachner, and Isabelle and Pheona Simmons. Gary is survived by his sister Brenda (Don) Streeter. Gary is also survived by his loving cat, Kitty. Gary was predeceased by his parents and his sister Joanne Bush.

Gary was an avid golfer, an accomplished bowler (but not as accomplished as he believed), a lifelong angler, and a storyteller (which given his success fishing was not a coincidence). Gary was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, auto racing, and the Dryden Hotel. Throughout his life Gary was a devoted fan at any sporting event that his children or grandchildren participated in.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital in remembrance of Gary.

Dean H. Witherell

Dean H. Witherell, age 61, passed away on October 31, 2020 at home under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and his family.

Dean was born on March 22, 1959 in Gouverneur, NY to Donald E. and Phyllis E. (Bowman) Witherell. He attended Gouverneur Central School. Dean helped his father in the family business, with running Witherell’s Salvage Yard.

Dean was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed anything to do with cars and trucks.

Surviving is his mother, Phyllis; two sons, Dean Witherell II and Ashley Plantz and Daniel and Jaine Witherell; three daughters, Deanna and Danny Trombley, Melissa Witherell and Kimberly Witherell; a brother, David and Stephanie Witherell; a sister, Donna and Bill Chambers and seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dean is predeceased by his father, Donald.

Audrey L. Barr

Audrey L. Barr, 87, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Seneca Hills Manor in Oswego.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 27th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. A private burial will be held in Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Brasie Corners.

Audrey was born in Oswegatchie on September 6, 1933, the daughter of Lee and Mabel (Holmes) Finley.

She graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1950 and from A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing.

Audrey worked as a social worker and as a registered nurse, having been employed at E.J. Noble Hospital of Canton, then E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur from 1965-1985. She then moved to Syracuse where she worked at the VA Hospital from 1985-1995 and then worked per diem as a nurse at the hospital in Gouverneur again.

She was a member of AORN, a nursing fraternity, St. James Church, Gouverneur, and the Ladies of the Elks. Audrey enjoyed golf, reading, dancing, spending winters in Florida, summers at Pleasant Lake, and cherished her time spent with her family.

She was previously married to Robert Barr who predeceased her and Gerald Lum.

Audrey is survived by her her sons Mark and Cyn of Florida, Matthew and Jeannie of Fulton, Daniel and his companion Dawn of Florida, her son-in-law Robert Marzella of Jamesville, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert Finley of Cicero, her sisters Ida Rheome of Plattsburgh, Norma Finley of Ogdensburg, Katherine McCamish of Maryland, several nieces and nephews. Audrey is predeceased by her parents and her daughter Shawna Marzella.

Pansy Bowhall, 68

Pansy J. Bowhall, age 68, of Gouverneur, passed away on October 23, 2020 at the Gouverneur Hospital after a brief illness.

Pansy was born on September 28, 1952 in Gouverneur to the late William and Retha (Hitchman) Smith. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School and married Lee Richard Bowhall on February 12, 1971 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Stanley Brown. Lee passed away on March 30, 2016.

Pansy loved watching and taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She will be remembered for her mayonnaise cake, her donuts, and having to mow her lawn “the right way”. She also enjoyed reading and working on puzzles.

Her survivors include her four children and their spouses, Pamela “Pam” and Scott Helvie, Jason “Cob” and Carri Bowhall, Retha “Bug” and Dustin Currier, and Samantha “Sam” and Joshua Simmons and ten grandchildren, Matt, Kylie, Abby, Lexi, Mazie, Riley, Carter, Bell, Kevin and Alyshia. She is also survived by siblings, Joanne Rose, James and Barbara Smith, Hollis “Holly” Smith, and Mark and Kay Smith.

Pansy is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lee, brothers, Denver and Patsy Smith, and a sister, Sally Matejcik.

Darrell L. Isereau

Darrell L. Isereau, 63, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at University Hospital in Syracuse.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 24th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with facial masks requested. A celebration of life will be arranged and announced next summer to share memories in hopefully healthier times.

Darrell was born on May 14, 1957, the son of Raymond and Vivian (Slate) Isereau.

He attended schools in Gouverneur and graduated in 1976.

Darrell worked a variety of jobs, having been known as “the cookie man” working for Archway Bakery, was a meat cutter for Weldon's Custom Cutting, worked construction for Barry, Bette, and Led Duke, served as dairy manager for P&C Foods and Totem Markets, and as an auto body repairman on the side.

He had been a member of the Gouverneur American Legion, VFW, Gouverneur Vol. Rescue Squad, and the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department.

Darrell enjoyed the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his Spyder motor cycle. He also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his companion Cass, spending summers at the family cottage at Pleasant Lake, and time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was previously married to Teresa (Weldon) Gillan.

Darrell is survived by his children Tracey Irland and her companion Mike Monello of Fairport, Matt and Danielle Isereau of Gouverneur, his grandchildren Cameron, Carson, and Cohen, Kadence, Ava, and Matty. He is also survived by his brother Robert and Linda Isereau of Gouverneur, sister Joani and Mike Hall of N. Gouverneur, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his companion Cass Burtis.

Shirley Woodward

Shirley M. Woodward, age 84, of Fowler, passed away on October 14, 2020 at her home under the care of her loving family and hospice.

Shirley was born in Talcville on January 17, 1936 to the late Kenneth and Ethel (Marsh) Rowe. She attended the Talcville School and graduated from the Edwards High School in 1953. Shirley married Byron I. Woodward on May 15, 1953 at the Gouverneur Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Work. Byron passed away on April 23, 2010.

Mrs. Woodward enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, reading, and working on puzzles. She was a member of the Indian River Baptist Church.

She is survived by her seven children, Byron “Jack” Woodward, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Gouverneur, Kenneth Woodward and his wife, Cindy of Glenwood, AR, Tony Woodward and his wife, Kelly of Gouverneur, Alex Woodward of Rochester, Pauline and Carl Culbertson of Black River, Deborah Palmer of Alaska, and Robin and Joseph Brown of Harrisville. She is also survived by her siblings, John Rowe of Tennessee, and Marlene Smith and Joanne Wendt of Florida, A LOT of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren (5 generations of lots of babies) and her nieces and nephews.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Byron Woodward, a daughter-in-law, Terry Woodward, brother, Ronnie Rowe, and a grandson, Scotty Palmer.

Beverly A. Besaw

Beverly A. Besaw, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday, October 19, 2020 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.

Beverly was born May 6, 1935 in Fine, NY the first child of Lloyd and Minnie Fenton. She married Herbert Besaw September 5, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Gouverneur.

Prior to her retirement in 1997, Beverly worked retail at J.J. Newberry, W.T. Grant and Ames Department Store for more than 25 years. She also helped operate the family Dairy Farm “Reservoir Ridge – Registered Ayrshires”.

Beverly enjoyed crafts, sewing and creating 100’s of beautiful quilts that are cherished by her family today. And not to mention she loved a great card game of Pedro with her children and grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Herbert of 67 years, her parents Lloyd and Minnie Fenton, brother Bert Fenton, sister Phyllis Denesha and great-grandson Chase Marshall.

She is survived by her children, Charlene and Jim Wratten of Adams, Joseph Besaw of Sylvia Lake and Florida, Kandi Norton of Rensselaer Falls, James “Art” and Lynette Besaw of Gouverneur, Herbert and Donna Besaw of Auburn and Beverly and Jeffery Ball of Hagaman. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and sisters, Maryalyce and John Perrault of Star Lake and Kimberly and Michael Yaeger of Leland, NC.
