Ute M. Gonio
Ute M. Gonio, 72, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at her home.
There are no funeral services per her request and the family will have a private celebration of life. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Ute was born in Grevesmuhlen, East Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Eva Reinberger. The family defected to West Germany where Ute graduated from business school.
She married Charles “Chuck” Gonio in 1971 in Lockport, NY after meeting him in Germany as he served in the United State Army. The couple moved to Gouverneur where they have lived most of their lives.
Ute was employed most of her life as a bookkeeper, working for Rotundo Auto Sales, Dave Hampton Chrysler, and retired from Riverside Iron Works in Gouverneur after nearly 25 years.
She enjoyed reading and the outdoors/wildlife, whether feeding the birds, going for walks near their home, or going for rides in the countryside.
Ute had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago.
Ute is survived by her husband Chuck, her son Matthew and Mandy Gonio of Auburn, her granddaughter Sloane Charles Gonio, and her sister of Germany. She is predeceased by her parents.

Anne Marie Roy
Anne Marie Roy, 83, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 20, 2023 in Massena.
There will be calling hours on Saturday, August 26 from 10:00-11:00 am with a memorial service at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home in Gouverneur.
Anne was born on February 3, 1940 in Richville, the daughter of Albert and Jessie (Jenkins) Walker.
She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1958 and Watertown School of Commerce in 1959.
Anne retired from Community Bank in Gouverneur as a loan officer after 25 years of employment. She had been a member of the United Church of Richville and enjoyed sewing, gardening, sailing, and traveling the country in the couple’s RV.
She had lived in Richville for many years before moving to Massena.
Anne married Ronald J. Roy on September 2, 1994 at Barnhart Marina in Massena.
She was previously married to Kenneth Thayer.
Anne is survived by her husband Ron, her children Jeffrey Thayer and his spouse Philippe Roques of Randolph, VT, Cassandra and Carlos Candelaria of Biscayne Park, FL, her stepchildren Dan Roy of Auburndale, FL, Kristine Roy of Lancaster, NH, Gabrielle Roy of Colebrook, NH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sam and Ariel Thayer, Emily Thayer and her companion Andrew Langhans, her step grandchild Crystal Dawson, her sister Roxie Smith of Gastonia, NC, several nieces and nephews. Anne is predeceased by her parents Albert and Jessie, her brothers Donald Walker and Rodney Walker.

Sally Porter
Sally Porter, 84, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Gouverneur Hospital.
There are no funeral services and a celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.
Sally was born in Gouverneur on May 23, 1939, the daughter of Paul and Helena (Fuller) Countryman and graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1957.
She worked for the Gouverneur Tribune Press for over 30 years.
Sally enjoyed playing games on her tablet, scratch off tickets, knitting, and crocheting.
A marriage to Leland Towne ended in divorce. Sally married Mohan Porter, and he predeceased her.
She is survived by her children Jodi and Jason Bigarel, Kendra Travis, and Craig Porter, all of Gouverneur, Brett Towne of Theresa, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sally is also survived by her brother Michael Countryman of Texas, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Mohan, her son Damon Towne, a brother Gary Countryman, and a sister Lynda Bilby.

Milton L. “Milt” Storie
Milton L. “Milt” Storie, 73, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 30 from 1-4 pm at the Gouverneur VFW. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Milton was born in Gouverneur on August 22, 1949, the son of Prentice and Bertha (Wallace) Storie.
He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1967 and attended Brockport State College.
Milt served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971.
He married Linda Hughes on June 23, 1973.
Milt worked for P&C Foods as a meat cutter and meat manager for 20 years before leaving to open his own meat cutting shop. In 1992 Milt changed careers and was employed by New York State Department of Corrections for 20 years until his retirement.
He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was camping, cutting wood, watching the animals, or building fires on the lake. Milt and Linda lived in Gouverneur most of their lives before moving to Black Lake a few years ago. Milt also enjoyed watching sports, especially local wrestling and football, shooting pool with family and friends, volunteering for whatever was needed for the animals at Gracious Friends, and most of all, spending time with his wife, his sons, and their families.
Milt is survived by his wife Linda, his sons Derek and Stacy Storie of Wilmington, NC, Jason Storie and his companion Brittany Petrie of Gouverneur, Michael Storie and his companion Brandie Matott of Richville, Timothy and Katelyn Storie of Wilmington, NC, his grandchildren Jullien, Izick, Daniel, Dillon, Vanessa, Isabel and Nolan, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a son Joshua Storie, a grandson Nicholas Storie, and his siblings Dorothy Robinson, Lauris Coffey and Donald Storie.

Harry was born on June 20, 1942 in Gouverneur, the son of Harry S. And Carol (Storie) Phelps.
At age 11, he went to work on a farm. At age 20, he went to work at Groveton Paper in Natural Dam. Harry later worked at Gouverneur Talc, and in 1969, he joined the Carpenters & Millwrights Union #278, retiring in 2004.
Harry liked to deer hunt and ice fish, was a 30 year member of Moldy Pond Hunting Club in Harrisville and was an honorary member of Clare Fish & Game Club in Degrasse. He also liked building projects such as houses, garages, and camps with friends and family.
He is survived by a daughter Annette and Jeff Smith of Baldwinsville, a son Paul and Julie Phelps of Richmond, VA, a daughter-in-law Lynn Phelps of Clear Lake, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Harry is also survived by his 2 sisters Nancy White of Atlanta, GA, Betty and Mike Stark of Berlin, NJ, several nieces and nephews. A marriage to Diane Marcellus ended in divorce. He is predeceased by his parents, a son Robert Phelps, a grand son Jeremy Smith, and a brother-in-law David White.

Marjory E. Tyler, age 95, of Hailesboro, passed away on July 4, 2023 at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Nursing in Canton.

Marjory was born on June 26, 1928 in Theresa to the late Loyde and Lenore (Grieve) Seavey. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1945 and from Watertown School of Commerce in 1946.
Marjory married Richard J. Tyler on November 15, 1947 at the Gouverneur Methodist Parsonage with Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. The couple operated their family dairy farm in North Gouverneur for many years. Marjory also worked as secretary at Adirondack Fire Insurance Company in Gouverneur. Richard passed away on August 19, 2007.
Mrs. Tyler enjoyed spending time at their Black Lake Camp, being with her family. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a member of the North Gouverneur Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Her survivors include a daughter, Marilyn and Sheldon Maine, a son, Richard “Rick” and Kathleen “Kasey” Tyler, 8 grandchildren, Bridgette P. LaPierre, Clara P. Cummings, Joey P. Shelly, Richard E. Tyler, Robert J. Tyler, Marcie L. Koch, Ryan F. Maine, and Erika L. Plumpton; a sister-in-law, Ginger Tyler and her special nieces and nephews.
Marjory is predeceased by her parents, her husband, a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Joseph Pistolesi, her sister, Aleta Billings, and a grandson, Ryan Shelly.

Jenny Lynn Reddick, age 77, of Gouverneur, NY passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Jenny was born on February 26, 1946 in Gouverneur, NY to the late William George and Mary Jane “Trot” (Cheeseman) Reddick. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1964. She then went on to Green Mountain College in Vermont and then Maryland Institute of Arts. She worked on receiving her Masters of Education from Empire State.
Jenny married Jerry Abrantes in September of 1975. Although their marriage ended in divorce, the couple remained close. Jenny was an artist and a homemaker. She often taught private art lessons in Syracuse and Taos, New Mexico. She was also a fulltime substitute teacher in the Syracuse City School District for several years. She was active in the Shakespeare Club, the Kiwanis Backpack Club and the Gouverneur United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sculpture, painting, playing cards, working on crossword puzzles and being in nature.
Surviving is her three children and their spouses, Mary and Bryan Pagan, Emily and Jesse Weller and Paul Abrantes and his companion Ashli Trujillo; the father of her children, Jerry Abrantes; four brothers, William Thomas “Tom” and Wanda Reddick, Ronnie John and Debbie Reddick, Robert James “Rob” Reddick and William George “Billy” Reddick; a sister, Harriet Jane and James McGirr; four grandchildren, Riley, Dean, Levi and Theo and several nieces and nephew.
She is predeceased by her parents and brothers, Robert John and Richard Timothy.

William C. Deuval, Sr.
William C. Deuval, Sr., 83, of Park Ave., passed away Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born on October 19, 1939, in Ogdensburg, he was the son of the late Ernest and Betsey (Caten) Deuval. He attended Gouverneur High School and graduated from Northwood School in Lake Placid in 1958. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Russell Sage College and furthered his studies at St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1961 and served until 1964.
On June 3, 1967, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Snow in Schenectady.
Bill was a professor of math and business at Jefferson Community College for many years. He also owned and operated WCD Enterprises Promotional Products for over 30 years. The family made Hadley their permanent home in 2002.
He was an avid NY Rangers fan and enjoyed collecting coins. He was a member of the Horace D. Washburn American Legion Post 533, Corinth, a past member of the Glens Falls Kiwanis Club, Past member of the Luzerne Hadley Fire Department and a member of the Church of the Messiah, Glens Falls.
He was predeceased by his parents and a son, William C. Deuval, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Eleanor Deuval; three daughters: Lynn (Todd) Garrelts of Queensbury, Suzanne (Todd) Deane of Halfmoon, Katherine Deuval of Hadley; five grandchildren: Caten, Caroline, Christian, Brandon and Emily.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there are no calling hours scheduled.
Private burial will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Jeanne was born on July 28, 1938 in Ogdensburg to the late Erwin and Thelma (Nottel) Hentz. She attended school in Ogdensburg and married Darrell Legacy on February 25, 1978 and were re-married on July 9, 1995. A previous marriage to Raymond Bowman ended in divorce.
Jeanne enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making dolls, reading, and playing bingo. Most of all, Jeanne loved being with her family.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Darrell Legacy, 5 children, Timothy (Doreen) Bowman, Carol (James) Deuel, William (Tissie) Bowman, Dawn (Bruce) Shove, and Wayne (Julie) Bowman, and siblings, June Camadge, David Hentz, and Albert Boclair, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by a son, Edward Bowman, and siblings, Sandra Clark, Thomas Hentz, and Ronald Hentz.

Beulah M. Walrath
Beulah M. Walrath, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Clarksville, TN.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur, NY with Fr. Jay Seymour officiating and burial to follow in Oxbow Cemetery. Beulah was born on January 25, 1935, in Potsdam to Algie Roy and Myrtle (White) Youngs.
She graduated from Heuvelton High School and the School of Business in Ogdensburg. Beulah married Lloyd William Walrath on October 22, 1955 in Gouverneur. She worked on the family farm, and at a business in Gouverneur for a couple of years. She then owned and operated Beulah M. Walrath Tax Accountant Services, which she ran for over 35 years until retiring in 1995. She lived most of her life in Oxbow before moving closer to her children in Brownville, NY, Maryland, and Tennessee.
She was a member of the Oxbow Historical Society, Oxbow Election Board, and a bereavement group. Beulah enjoyed attending church and traveling to see people and places. In addition to numerous places scattered around the US, she visited Canada, Germany, Korea and New Zealand. Beulah was also a music and dance event promoter and coordinator for the community of Oxbow. She loved to dance and did so any chance she got, including in/around Oxbow, state and local fairs, Watertown State Office Building, Watertown Samaritan Summit Village, and several town events in Jefferson County and more. Beulah lived a long and beautiful life and touched so many. She was very outgoing, friendly, cheerful, considerate, and energetic. As many know, Beulah loved talking to and helping others. She was very caring, generous, and thoughtful with her words and actions. She is well known and will be remembered by numerous people, not only due to her memberships and interests above but also through her tax service customers and her dancing.
Beulah is survived by her children and their spouses: Mike (Vicki) Walrath of Brownville, NY; Cindy (Ed) White of Binghamton, NY; Joe (Terry) Walrath of Sarasota, FL; Craig (Trudy) Walrath of Spring, TX; Steve (Julie) Walrath of Orlando, FL; Dawn (James) Smith of Clarksville, TN; Tim (Cherri) Walrath of Monrovia, MD, and Doug (Shelly) Walrath of Columbia, MD, 26 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Primeau of Dekalb Jct., Doris Caster of Dekalb Jct., Nancy (John) Wilson of Rensselaer Falls, Dolly (Gene) Wright of NC, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, siblings Algie (Roy) Youngs, George Youngs, Beatrice Glasford, Eloise Youngs, Eleanor Youngs, Harold Youngs, and Sally Sanders, and grandchildren Heidi Smith and Spencer Smith.

Violet Lillian Hamilton, 93, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Gouverneur Hospital.

Lillian was born on July 14, 1929 in Morristown, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Wilson) Edwards.
She married Erwin John Hamilton and operated Hamilton Reality for several years.
John passed away on July 20, 2020.
Lillian enjoyed square-dancing, gardening, genealogy, and spending time with her family.

William J. Young
William J. Young, 61, of Auburn, formerly of Gouverneur, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2023. Born in Gouverneur on August 25, 1961, Bill was the son of the late Glenn and Sandra (Jones) Young. He was currently employed as a security guard with Allied Security. He enjoyed going to haunted houses around Halloween time, going to the movie theater, and watching wrestling.
William is survived by his sisters, Vicki (David) Benjamin and Kathy (Charles) Weir and his sister-in-law, Fran Young and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his brother, Steven Young.

Barbara E. Audycki, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Barbara was born in Herkimer on August 20, 1934, the daughter of John and Anna (Lynch) Roszykiewicz.
She graduated from Herkimer High School, Stratford College in Danville, VA, and Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene, Boston, MA.
Barbara married Robert S. Audycki on November 19, 1955 in Herkimer.
Robert, a high school athletic coach and physical education teacher, passed away on February 1, 1999.
Barb was employed by Dr. Mark Truax of Gouverneur for many years.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Jill Audycki and Ken Knutti of Nantucket, MA, John and Donna Audycki of Elk Grove, CA, Robert and Sherry Audycki of Dartmouth, MA, Martin Paul and Karyn Audycki of N. Chili, NY, David and Linda Audycki of Emerald Isle, NC, 13 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
