This Saturday, October 4, the Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund will host its 24th Annual Walk. North Country residents, survivors, families, and supporters to lace up their sneakers and step out in solidarity. The event, a cornerstone of local cancer awareness and fundraising efforts, begins at the Gouverneur Village Park and winds through the heart of the community—each stride honoring lives touched by breast and ovarian cancer.
Founded nearly a quarter-century ago, the walk has grown into a powerful tradition of remembrance, hope, and action. Organizers say the event not only raises critical funds for patients across the North Country, but also fosters connection and healing. Each year, the walk becomes a personal journey for many—whether honoring a loved one, supporting a friend, or standing in solidarity with those still fighting. Volunteers and participants alike show up with purpose, united by compassion and the shared belief that no one should face cancer alone.
Participants are encouraged to wear pink and teal—the colors representing breast and ovarian cancer awareness. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the annual ceremony at about 10 a.m., and the walk stepping off at 10:30 a.m. The one-mile route begins at the Gouverneur Village Park, winding through Mills Park, and crossing the pedestrian bridge into Riverview Park. All donations received will be used to help address the financial needs of individuals living in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, and Franklin Counties, who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer throughout their treatment and recovery.
Whether you're walking in memory, in celebration, or in support, the Gouverneur Breast and Ovarian Cancer Fund Walk offers a chance to turn compassion into motion—and to remind the community that every step counts.
