Floyd was born in Gouverneur in 1930, graduated from Gouverneur Central High in 1947 and received his BS (1951) and Master of Education in School Counseling (1954) from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY. Kathleen was born in Rutland, VT, graduated from West Rutland High School (’50) and received her RN degree (’54) from Benedictine Hospital School of Nursing, Kingston, NY. She later received her Master of Education (’62) from St Lawrence University as well.

Floyd & Kathleen were introduced in 1954 by one of Kathleen’s Brothers-in-law, Bob McClay, who was attending Grad School with Floyd. After their marriage in 1955, they traveled the country for several years using his teaching degree and her RN to pay the way. They finally settled down in Gouverneur in 1965 when Floyd secured a position as a Guidance Counselor at Gouverneur Central High for the next 23 years. During this time, Kathleen taught nursing at Canton College and later became the Director of Nursing Services at EJ Noble Hospital in Gouverneur. After retiring in 1988, they spent the next 34 years spending 6 months at their Camp on Jones Pond outside of Edwards and 6 months at their place on Jekyll Island, GA playing golf and walking the beach. It was a great life!

Floyd & Kathleen are survived by their son Sean, his wife Gretchen (Youngman), granddaughters Brigid, Clare, and Kara, daughter Margaret, her husband Alex, and granddaughters Marie and Cassidy.

Their family is planning a joint Remembrance Service at Gunnison Memorial Chapel, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY this Spring/Summer. In leu of flowers, a donation in their memory to the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave, Potsdam, NY 13676 (www.potsdamhumanesociety.org) would be appreciated. In the meantime, we ask all friends & family to raise a toast to them both and to their lives together.
