Katherine “Katie” Y. Moore, age 88, of Gouverneur, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2017 at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice.
There will be a calling hour at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from noon until 1p.m. with her funeral service immediately following at 1p.m. with Birney Kellogg officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Katie was born on December 28, 1928 in Gouverneur to the late Alvin and Edna (Washburn) Young. She graduated from the Gouverneur High School in 1946 and from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Utica, in 1949.
Katie married Murray Moore on August 18, 1950 at the Gouverneur Methodist Parsonage with Rev. William Wood officiating. The couple lived in Rochester and Syracuse before returning to the Gouverneur area in 1967. Murray passed away on January 18, 1983.
Mrs. Moore retired from the E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur as the day supervisor in December of 1990. She had previously worked as a private duty nurse in Syracuse.
Katie loved square dancing and attended country music jams several times a week. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens in the summer and spending winters in Florida. Katie was a member and past president of the Macomb Senior Citizens, a member of the Black River Valley Fiddlers, the Macomb Sunshine 4H Club, the Tourist Square Dancing Club, and organized the NYS Picnic atZephyrhills, FL.
Her survivors include four sons, Larry and his wife, Sue, Jimmy and his wife, Donna, D.J. and his companion, Laura Fuller, Eddie and his wife, Terri; her daughter, Judy McAllister and her husband, Allan; and a sister, Martha Sexton. She is also survived by her companion, Wallace Hurlbut, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Katie is predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Barbara Moore, and a sister, Ruby Troxell.
