Jesse K. “Pat” Simmons
Jesse K. “Pat” Simmons, 82, Fullerville, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at Gouverneur Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born December 12, 1934 in Watertown, a son of Throuvanion and Ida Thomas Simmons and grew up in Benson Mines and Fullerville area and attended school in Fullerville and Star Lake. The Fullerville school eventually became his home.
Pat married Stasia Farr (Backus) on December 12, 1970. She died July 12, 2007.
He entered the US Air Force in 1952, serving in Okinawa and Hiroshima, Japan, being honorably discharged in 1962.
He retired as a motor vehicle operator at Fort Drum where he worked as a security guard and bus driver.
He was past commanderof the American Legion Post No. 65, Gouverneur, a life member of VFW Post 6338, Gouverneur and a member of the American Legion Post No. 1593, Star Lake.
Pat enjoyed hunting, fishing and drinking with his buddies. Most of his time was spent with his grandchildren, Dylan Bates, Calie Spedding and Ben Spedding, who were the light of his life.
Survivors include eight children: twin daughters, Kathy Bates and her companion Phillip Parker, Fullerville and Karen Spedding and husband Tom, Oswego, daughters, Gloria Weldon, Gouverneur, LouDean Garcia, TX, Pamela, Sandra and Elizabeth Simmons, all of NYC and Chris Petrie, Macomb; one son, Danny Worden, DeKalb; eight step-children; Sheila Seamans and husband, Dave of Cortland, Patsy Ginn and husband Jack of Cortland, Peggy Davis and husband Robert of Fowler, Danny Backus and companion, Kelly Marasco, Gouverneur, Phyllis Roberts and companion Kevin Gay, Hilton, Chris Backus and companion Patty Murdock, Fredericksburg, VA, Jimmy Backus and wife Lynne, Star Lake, Lori Cowles and husband Larry, Gouverneur; one sister, Nancy DuQuette, Saranac Lake; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, his wife, four brothers, Thirel “Hi” Simmons, Kenneth Simmons, Throuvanian “Tonk” Taylor, Delous “Butch” Simmons, two step-daughters, Jo Backus and Bonnie Hooper, cousin and best friend, Carlton Simmons all died before him.
