Jane A. Murdie, 86, left this planet Earth on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Gouverneur Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 25th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Orville Eacker and Rev. Howard Maxson officiating and burial to follow in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Jane was born in Fowler on January 8, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Grace Powers Walrath.
She attended Gouverneur schools and received her general equivalency diploma later in life in 1983.
Jane had worked in the cafeteria of E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur and as a home health care aide for the Community Development Program.
Jane married Clarence Murdie on January 16, 1950 in Canton.
She enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, collecting teddy bears, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Jane was a member of the Fowler Baptist Church, Red Hat Society, Promenaders Square Dance Club, and was involved with the literacy program of the Gouverneur Library.
Jane is survived by her 3 sons Larry and Katherine Murdie of Mississippi, John and JoAnne Murdie of Fowler, Mark Murdie and his companion Terry Layboult of Fowler, 4 daughters Grace and Otis Woods of Russell, Susan and Richard LaBow of Richville, Bertha and David Morrow of Fowler, Claressa “CJ” and Joseph Fitzgerald of Balmat, her granddaughter that she raised Mary Bates of Fowler, one sister, Betty Stevens of Emeryville, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
She is predeceased by her parents, a son Clarence “Jerry” Murdie, 4 brothers Ward, Glen, Robert, and Keith Walrath, 3 sisters Hilda Woodard Doyle, Ella Mae Paro, and Leona Hurlbut.
