Harry R. Salisbury, age 76, of Gouverneur, passed away on December 29, 2019 at Van Duyn Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse.
His funeral and burial will be private with Elder Richard Youngs, his long- time friend officiating. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Harry was born on July 4, 1943 in Gouverneur to the late Donald and Jacqueline (Vert) Salisbury. He attended the Gouverneur High School and married Mary Alice Rotundo on January 16, 1971 at the Gouverneur Baptist parsonage officiated by Rev. Perry.
Harry started working right out of high school as a mechanic for the Central Garage in Gouverneur. He also worked for Rotundo Chrysler-Plymouth before opening up his own business, Harry’s Auto Repair. Harry operated his own business for 13 ½ years before becoming an underground mechanic for ZCA where he worked until it closed. Always enjoying mechanical work, Harry loved going to work.
Harry loved racing and playing golf. He watched NASCAR, was a Dale Earnhardt fan, and even owned his own race car. Harry was also a longtime member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Salisbury; two daughters, Wendy and Penny and their families; several nieces and nephews; and also, his precious cat, Rufus.
Harry is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dean Salisbury and his in-laws, Henry and Doreen Rotundo.
