Carl Bruce Soper, 70, of Benton, Arkansas; formerly of Edwards, NY passed away at his home on October 21, 2022. Carl was born to the late (Lynn) Bruce and Mary Elizabeth (Allen) on March 8, 1952.
His childhood was spent on the family farm in Edwards, while his adult life was spent working construction across multiple states, and serving 20+ years with the US Army Reserves.
A marriage to Jean Ann Bowman on July 6, 1974 ended in divorce, but they had four children during their time together.
After retirement, Carl enjoyed hunting, spending time with his yorkies (that he never left home without), having coffee with friends, and participating in his local church. He tried to make an annual trip to New York to catch up with family and friends until his health wouldn’t let him. He never lost his love for the North Country, and loved coming in the fall to enjoy hunting and being at camp with his brother and nephews.
Survivors include his children: Lori and Brian Gagnon of Gouverneur, NY, Gina and Kris Johnson of Richville, NY, Stacy and her companion James Laverdiere of Lisbon, NY, and Chad and his companion Miranda Dishaw of Gouverneur, NY; 13 grandchildren: Kelsee (Belle), Taylor (Alex), Brooklynn (Tyler), Sarina, Trevor, Logan, Jordyn, Natalie, Orion, Trison, Kaiden, Kendall, and Chloe; brothers and sisters: Phillip and Donna of Edwards, NY, Phyllis of Chittenango, NY, Patricia Gliniecki of Cumberlin City, TN, Connie Horn of Colorado Springs, CO, Bonnie and Ernest Turnbull of Carlisle, TN, Sheila Villeneuve of Erin, TN and Rick and his companion Michelle LaBow of Clinton, Mo.; several nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends that were like family.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Lynn and Mary Soper, and a sister, Brenda.
Memorial services/Celebration of life will be November 13, 4:30 p.m., at the Gouverneur Community Center, and in Arkansas at the convenience of his friends/family there. He will be laid to rest in the family plot at Payne Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Benton, Arkansas or a Veterans charity of your choice.
