John M. Scozzafava, age 93, of 182 Rowley Street, Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
Born in Gouverneur on December 17, 1928 he was the son of Fred G. and Katherine (Morrow) Scozzafava. On July 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Margaret M. Adams at the Drury house in Gouverneur by Ora Wright, JP.
He is survived a son, John and his wife, Maria, of Milford, Massachusetts, and their children, John Matthew and twin daughters, Victoria and Katherine; and a daughter, Sara and her husband, Paul Castellani, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and their children, Matthew and twin daughters, Sophia and Katherine. He was predeceased by wife Margaret, his parents Fred and Katherine Scozzafava, two sisters, Beverly Scozzafava and Joan Lamar and a brother William Scozzafava and several nieces and nephews.
John was a 1946 graduate of Gouverneur Central Schools. He served his country in the United States Coast guard from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean conflict He actively managed for over 70 years with his brother Bill the family auto parts business started by his father Fred G. He was an avid outdoorsman. He belonged to the Rainbow and Pine tree hunting clubs as well as his own private camp in Edwards, NY. He was also a member of the Gouverneur chapter of the Masonic Temple.
John will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. Services will be private.
