James E. “Jim” Bowhall, 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 16th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Ben Lalka, pastor of Gouverneur Methodist Church officiating and burial to follow in Hailesboro Cemetery. A gathering will follow the burial at the Gouverneur Community Center.
James was born on April 26, 1941 in Gouverneur, the son of Carl and Nettie (Lucas) Bowhall.
He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1959 and raised his family in Gouverneur.
Jim married Gail Jones on April 17, 1971 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Dodds officiating.
He worked many years delivering fuel to local homes with McCallister’s Oil Company, the Augsbury Company, Bush Fuel Company, and Agway Fuel Company. He was also a partner in Gouverneur Bowl, retiring in 2017.
Jim enjoyed bowling, spending time at the family cottage on Pleasant Lake, cheering on the New York Yankees, and attending the events of his children and grandchildren. He was also civic minded, having served on the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce, Gouverneur Cemetery Association, prison advisory board, Gouverneur Village Board and Planning Board.
Jim is survived by his wife Gail, his children Jay and Marion Bowhall, Carla Bishop and her companion Steve Makuch, Jill and Shawn Beaulieu, Karen and Ken Calton, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Lee Bowhall, and his son-in-law Bart Bishop.
Memorial donations in honor of Jim are suggested to the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce or Gouverneur Cemetery Association.
