Paula J. Jordan

Paula J. Jordan, age 76, of Hermon, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Rome Health.

Paula was born on January 21, 1947 in Gouverneur to the late Erwin “Doc” and Lucy (Weatherup) Conklin. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1965. She attended University of Buffalo then Potsdam State before leaving college to marry the love of her life and her soulmate, John W. Jordan on September 3, 1967 at her parents’ home. John passed away on November 14, 1975. Paula had attended Southwest Tech BOCES, studying cosmetology as an adult in the early 80’s and had a small shop in her home for a short time where she cut hair and gave perms for several people in Hermon.

Paula served as the Hermon Town Assessor from 1985-1986 then immediately following, worked as the Hermon Town Clerk for 25 years, retiring in 2013. She enjoyed sewing, quilt making, knitting, crocheting, gardening, tending to her house plants, was an avid reader and cherished her doll collection. Paula also made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and enjoyed making doll clothes for her granddaughters. She frequently donated several doll outfits to the Hermon Hepburn Library auction and winter hats and mittens to those in need. She looked forward to the annual Weatherup family reunion where she spent time catching up with her cousins and large extended family. In her youth, Paula showed horses at the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair and enjoyed riding them, having a special fondness for her horse Gypsy Charm.

Paula is survived by her children, Shirley Ward and her husband, Jeffrey, Barbara Hacker and her companion, Jay Rousseau, Wesley Jordan, and Harlan Jordan and his wife, Lauren, a brother, Gregory Conklin, a sister, Gwen Conklin, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, John, and siblings, Neal Conklin, Laura Conklin, Gail George, and Constance Conklin.
