Charles Frederick Goodnough, 76, passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 9, 2025 at Loretto Health & Rehabilitation, Syracuse, NY, and had previously been cared for at Keepsake Village, Syracuse, NY.
Born on June 28, 1948 in Watertown, NY, to Charles Merle and Mary G. Warrick Goodnough. He was raised in Theresa and attended Theresa Elementary School. During high school he was an exceptional athlete, playing baseball, football and wrestling. He earned enough points to reserve an athletic sweater and graduated from Indian River Central School in 1966.
Fred served in the United States Army from 1968-1970 and was honorably discharged in Europe and traveled for a year, going to France, Spain, Morocco, Greece, India, Napal and then back to Germany and the United States.
He had a competitive athletic nature all of his life and especially loved to canoe, also enjoying spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include a brother, David Goodnough, Philadelphia, NY; a sister, Maureen Satchwell, Corpus Christi, TX; two brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, James William Goodnough, and a sister, Kathleen Satchwell-Graham.
Memorial services and Military Honors will be 6 pm, Thursday, May 22, 2025, by Past 5th District Commander and Post 916 Chaplin David Gerrish, and the Antwerp and Philadelphia American Legions at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY.
Calling hours will be 5-6 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery, Redwood, NY, at a later date.
