Martha B. Daniels

Martha B. Daniels, age 100, was called home by her Lord on February 19, 2025. She passed away suddenly following a brief illness. Martha had been a resident of Highland Nursing Home in Massena since July of 2021. Funeral arrangements are under the care and guidance of Frary Funeral Home, 33 Park St., Gouverneur.

Martha was born on July 10, 1924 the daughter of Ernest and Laura (Terry) Hubbard. She learned the value of hard work at a very young age by helping her dad milk the cows before walking to school at the Colton Hill School. We heard many stories of riding the hay rake and pitching hay on her summers off from school. She later attended Oswegatchie High School graduating in 1942.

Martha married Morgan (Tick) Daniels on October 10, 1942 in Fine, NY where they resided for many years. She was loved by all who knew her and was at one time known as Fine’s “unofficial” postmaster as she would gather and deliver mail and papers daily for many residents. Martha enjoyed gardening with her husband, reading, playing music and most of all she was well known for her famous homemade bread which she would make and give away to friends and neighbors, a practice she continued well into her 80’s.

In recent years Martha was especially keen on attending the yearly Oswegatchie High School Reunion Banquet where she eventually became the oldest living alumni. Unfortunately the COVID 19 pandemic ended the banquets and it was not revived.

Martha is survived by her children, a daughter, Shirley McEathron, Gouverneur, a Son, Lewis (Marcia Taylor), of Ontario, NY, a daughter Sherry LaMora (Pat), Edwardsville, a granddaughter Jodie Scott, Castleton, Grandson Scott (Wendi) McEathron, Macomb, grandson Joseph (Christine) Daniels, Lilburn, GA, granddaughters Kassi, and Monica Daniels, Minnesota. She is also survived by great grandchildren Kenny Zeller, Rylee and Colby McEathron, Haley and Jordan Scott and Jacklynn Daniels. Martha leaves behind various cousins, nieces, nephews, and a many many friends that she has met over her 100 years of life. Martha is predeceased by her husband Morgan, a daughter Sally, a son Leon and a sister Marion.

We would be remiss if we were to overlook Martha’s “second family” the Jones Children; Tim, Sue, Sheri, Karla and Sheila, that she watched over for about 15 years so that their mom Dorothy could be gainfully employed.

A memorial service will held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared with Martha’s family at www.fraryfuneralhome.com.
