Spearheaded by organizer Judy Bush of Gouverneur, First United Methodist Church of Gouverneur volunteers are eagerly serving community members free soup takeout dinners during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The weekly dinners are held on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., and is served from the entrance by Key Bank. If no one is there to bring your soup, honk your horn.
The first dinner was held on Wednesday, April 1 with much success. Organizer Judy Bush told the Gouverneur Tribune Press that she got the idea for the event on Sunday, March 29, recognizing the need in the community after the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the subsequent economic downturn.
The First United Methodist Church of Gouverneur hopes to continue this mission each week during this time of “social distancing.” For more information, check the First UMC Gouverneur Facebook page.
