James F. Butler Jr., age 53, of Gouverneur, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Gouverneur Hospital.
There were calling hours for Jimmy on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 10a.m. to 11a.m. with his funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home Inc., Gouverneur with Pastor Robert Williams officiating. James was born on January 29, 1963 in Ogdensburg, to James F. and Arlene (Rathbun) Sr. He graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1983. A marriage to Tina Cousino ended in divorce. He has been with his companion, Mary Congleton for over fifteen years.
Jimmy worked as a farm hand for most of his life working at various north country farms. He worked for several years at Scotch Acre Farms, which were owned by Alan and Beth Martin and Godly Home Farm owned by Debbie and Terry Durham. He also worked for a while with his brother, Daniel Fifield at Fifield Mowing. Jimmy loved snowmobiling, hunting, camping and raising chickens. He also loved listening to country music.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Mary Congleton of Gouverneur; his mother, Arlene Fifield of Gouverneur; his father, James Butler Sr. and his companion Rosemary Allen of Edwards; a daughter, Kandy L. Butler of Ogdensburg; four step sons, Gregory Fifield, Alan Fifield, Samuel Fifield and Ashley and his wife Christina Fifield all of Gouverneur; four brothers and their spouses, John Butler and Michelle Farr, Norman Butler, Ronald and Wanda Fifield and Daniel and Tina Fifield all of Gouverneur; Four sisters and their spouses, Susan and Wayne Gagnon of Rochester, Mary and Frank Bassett of Florida, Lisa Newcomb and Andy St. Laurant of Central Square and Debbie and Terry Durham of Hammond; a granddaughter, Sydney Leigh Butler and several step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Jimmy is predeceased by his step father, Henry Fifield and a step son, Joshua Lintz, who passed away in 2011.
