Janice M. Lehan
Janice M. Lehan, 81, of Canton passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after being stricken at home.
Calling hours were held on Monday, July 11, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Parishville, NY.
Janice was born, October 5, 1934 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Elmer R. and Floy E. (Howe) Phelps. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1951 and attended the Emma Wallace Business School in Ogdensburg. On June 29, 1952, she married Rudolph M. Lehan at the Norwood First Methodist Church, with Rev. Allison C. Wood, pastor, officiating. Mr. Lehan predeceased her on November 19, 1997.
Janice and Rudy lived in Panama City, FL while he was in the US Air Force. Upon his discharge, the couple returned to Norwood. Janice worked at for the Gouverneur School District at the Brasie Corners Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and librarian. Later they returned to Florida and lived in Lake Worth for several years prior to Rudy’s death, Janice then returned to the North Country.
Janice enjoyed Bingo and Square Dancing and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Canton.
She is survived by a daughter, Roxann Paro and husband Kevin of Pulaski, by two grandsons, Kristoffer D. Paro and Jeremy A. Hall, by a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Paro; and by a brother, Wayne H. Phelps. A daughter Julie M. Hall predeceased her in 2002.
