A memorial service was held for Margaret Ryder, Gouverneur, on Monday, August 1 at 3 p.m. at the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church with Judy Sibley officiating. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Margaret, 72, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
Margaret was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on September 21, 1943, the daughter of Hollis and Deatta Prescott Pevear.
She graduated from high school in New Hampshire and received licensed practical nurses training. Margaret also served in the United States Army.
Margaret was employed at Rockingham County Children's Home in New Hampshire, various hospitals and nursing homes, and retired from Punta Gorda Care Center in Florida. Her favorite job was working with children with disabilities.
She lived most of her life in New Hampshire and Florida, the last several years in Gouverneur, and recently moved to Canton.
Margaret enjoyed Bible study, writing poetry, and spending time with family, especially her great grandchildren.
She was previously married to Edward Ryder.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Theresa "Terry" and Mario Pistolesi of Gouverneur, two grandchildren Crystal Salter of Tampa, FL, Justin and Katie Salter of Gouverneur, four great grandchildren Alaynna, Colton, Grady, and Luca, a brother Irving Pevear and his companion Jackie McCarthy of Dunbarton, N.H., a sister Marion Pevear of Newport Richey, FL, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents.
