Leonard W. Lambert, Jr., age 79, of Gouverneur, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at his home.
Calling hours for Leonard will be on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6p.m. to 9p.m. and again on Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with his funeral service starting at 11a.m. at French Funeral Home in Edwards. Leonard was born on December 25, 1936 in Geneva, N.Y. to the late Leonard W. and Mamie (Scott) Lambert Sr. He attended Gorham Central School and then later he entered into the United States Air Force. He worked for different farmers and also worked with heavy equipment running various dozers. Leonard married Helen Gage on April 17, 1959 in the Town of Seneca. They operated his parents' farm in the Town of Gorham for two years.
In 1962, they purchased a small vineyard in Yates County. He also worked for Shay Gas and Oil, Penn Yan Express, operated his own dozer, worked construction and worked for another vineyardist.
In 1975, the couple purchased and operated Thy Will Dairy Farmand operated it for 24 years in West Hermon.
After retiring, they purchased a small home in the Town of Gouverneur, where Leonard enjoyed working for other farmers and began a hobby of woodworking. Throughout most of his life, he also enjoyed riding and working with horses.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Helen; three sons, Todd and Dianna Lambert of DeGrasse, Leonard Aaron Lambert and his companion Jean Storie of Gouverneur and K. Kristan Lambert and his companion Ellen Johnson of Gouverneur; three daughters, Kelley and Stan Edick of Whitesboro, Tracy and Kelvin Perrigo of Gouverneur and Lorrine Lambert and her companion Larry M. Allen of Gouverneur; a brother, Edward Lambert of Branch Port, N.Y.; a sister, Leola Melious of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard is predeceased by his parents; a brother Donald Lambert; two sisters, Clara Saunderson and Mildred Woodley; and a grandson, Zachary Randall.
