Candy L. Henderson
Candy L. Henderson of 235 US Route 11 Gouverneur, NY died on April 13, 2017 at University Hospital in Syracuse. She was 70.
Candy was born on April 14, 1946, the daughter of Claron and Dora Mae Daniels Dashnaw. Mrs. Henderson graduated from Indian River High School. She married Robert Henderson on July 4, 1964 in Antwerp.
Mrs. Henderson was a busy homemaker—she enjoyed, sewing, knitting; crocheting and crafting. She made cakes for Weddings and worked on the Elections Board for the Town of Rossie.
Candy was a long-time member of the Oxbow Presbyterian Church. She was an elder of the church and served as the Clerk of Session for many years.
She was instrumental in re-forming the church youth group and her home has served as a meeting place for youth from various churches from Jefferson and St. Lawrence County for many years.
The ladies of the Presbyterian Women's Group looked forward to the annual Christmas party which Candy always hosted at her home. She was an integral part of every aspect of her church up until the last few years when illness curtailed her involvement. If the door of the church was open Candy was always there lending a hand.
From the years of the Friday night fish fries to the Fall Harvest Dinner, to the Easter Ham dinner her special touch was always appreciated. Her flare for decoration was always evident, from the special doilies which she crocheted for the tables to the beautiful stoles she sewed for the choir.
She promoted the numerous talent shows held at the church and her granddaughters provided much of the talent, not only for the shows, but also as members of the church choir and the original cast of the show, "Paul the Prisoner" that traveled to many churches and senior citizen homes throughout the north country. She was there to make pizzas to raise money for the church cemeteries. She was instrumental in the success of the annual summer Vacation Bible School providing craft activities and supervision and special activities which were enjoyed by all. She was there to provide transportation for the many youth activities of the church.
Her dedication, smile and laughter will be missed, but never forgotten.
