Sharron L. Sprague-Vesneski, age 73, who passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the United Helpers RiverLedge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.
There will be calling hours for Sharron on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. with her funeral service starting at 1:30 p.m. atFrench Funeral Home in Gouverneur with Rev. Sharron was born on June 2, 1943 in Gouverneur, to Ward W. and Lena E. (Hicks) Sprague. She graduated from the Gouverneur Central School in 1961 and from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam in 1965. In 1966 Sharron received her Masters degree in Voice and Piano.
Sharron was a teacher. She taught at the Ogdensburg Free Academy while earning her Masters degree and then she taught at West Point; teaching the officer’s children. While she was at West Point she formed a choir called the West Point Cadets. Later on, Sharron earned her Masters in Psychiatric Social Work.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; was a member of the literacy volunteers, and for a short time she taught English as a Second Language (ESL).
Sharron also belonged to numerous teachers’ associations. In her free time, Sharron enjoyed sewing and quilting. She traveled extensively to historic places and her favorite at-home past time was reading historical biographies of our Founding Fathers and others of historical note. She has also been a featured speaker at DAR meetings.
Sharron is survived by three brothers, Russell W. and Priscilla Sprague of Zion Crossroads, VA and David C. Sprague of Antwerp, N.Y.; Phillip and Cheryl Sprague of Reston, VA; a sister, Pauline and Tim Valuckas of Litchfield, CT and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ward W. and Lena E. Sprague, and her brother, Stephen H. Sprague.
