Charlotte L. “Lottie” Gillett, 99, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 am at Spragueville Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Charlotte was born in Brasher Falls on September 11, 1924, the daughter of Douglas and Mildred (LaVare) Sawyer.
She worked on the family farm, subbed as the Spragueville postmaster, was a waitress at local establishments such as Penguin Lanes bowling alley and Casablanca Restaurant, and also worked at the Natural Dam paper mill.
Lottie married Glenn Gillett on November 30, 1941.
Glenn passed away on April 15, 1983.
Lottie had served as a 4-H leader and had assisted at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge.
She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, trapping, and spending time at her hunting camp in Fullerville. Lottie also enjoyed gardening, bowling, cooking, baking, and making rock and mineral jewelry.
Lottie is survived by her companion Louis Pokorney, her children Edwin and Kathryn Gillett of Constableville, Carolyn and Joseph Millard of Carthage, Nancy Booking of Deferiet, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Joyce Clintsman, brothers infant Douglas Jr., Leighton, Richard, Cecil, Donald, and Lawrence Sawyer, sisters infant Pansy Sawyer and Beulah Lashua.
Memorial donations in honor of Lottie are encouraged to the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department, Antwerp Vol. Fire Department, or Gouverneur Vol. Rescue Squad.
