Frederick, or as he liked to be known “Fast Freddy” of 35 North Gordon Street, Gouverneur, NY, passed away on August 8, 2024 at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse at the age of 87.
Fred has resided in Gouverneur his entire life.
He was born on March 6, 1937 in Gouverneur to Edwin Easton and Charlotte Perry Easton.
Fred attended a one room school house until 6th grade. He finished school at Gouverneur High School in 1956, playing football, track, and basketball. He claims to have played on the best football team Coach LaFalce ever had. He graduated from Canton College with a degree in Dairy Tech.
Fred married the love of his life Anna Pistolesi on April 25, 1959 in Gouverneur, being married for 65 years.
He was employed by Borden’s Milk Plant for 9 years, then by G.W. White for 9 years, after which he and Anna opened Easton’s Hardware Store in 1976 which they ran for 30 years.
Fred is survived by his wife Anna, their three sons Fred of California, Ed and his wife Diane of Gouverneur, Chris and his wife Pam of Trout Lake. He is also survived by two brothers Ed of Virginia, Jim of Gouverneur, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Fred dedicated his life to all things sports for the children of Gouverneur. He was instrumental in the building and running of ball parks, coaching baseball from little league to college age.
He was a member of Kiwanis for over 35 years, being President in 1995. In 1983, he received the renovation building award for building Mills Park. He was treasurer and helped run Riverview Park for 10 years. Fred received the 2005 Chamber Award and the 2018 St. Lawrence County Senior Citizen of the Year Award.
There was a funeral mass held at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur on Wednesday, August 14th at 11:00 am with a reception following at the Casablanca Restaurant. Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
