Connie L. (Dennis) Tubbs, age 67, of Gouverneur, passed away at home on January 6, 2025 under the devoted care of her husband, family and hospice.
Connie was born on April 30, 1957 in North Hornell, NY to the late Donald R. and Linda L. (Brownell) Dennis. She grew up working alongside her parents and siblings on a small dairy farm, and this experience instilled in her the value of hard work. This was a trait that served her well throughout her life. After graduating from Canaseraga High School, Connie tried out several careers and programs of study, one of which led her to Alfred State College, where she met her husband Allyn Tubbs. Connie married Allyn on July 31, 1977 at the Larger Parish Methodist Church in Canaseraga. This past year, Connie and Allyn celebrated their 47th year of marriage.
As a parent of young children with a full-time job, Connie went back to school and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Elmira College in 1986. At 30, she began her teaching career, which spanned over three decades, and included 31 years for Gouverneur and Fowler Elementary Schools, before her retirement in 2019.
Connie loved to spend time with her family, and her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved the country, especially its hills and mountains, its creeks and ponds. She loved to be in the water. Connie had a special place in her heart for Limekiln Lake in the Adirondack Mountains, a place she visited throughout her life – first as a child, then as a mother, and then as a grandmother. Connie was an avid reader and also enjoyed tending to the flower beds around her home. She loved the color blue and bringing home interesting rocks from her travels. Connie was a member of the United Church of Richville and was very blessed by her church family.
Connie is survived by her husband, Allyn Tubbs, her children, Donald Tubbs, Anna and her husband, Gordon Emery, and Katie Tubbs and her fiancé, Brad Grace, and her siblings, Donna and Robert Wilson, Rev. Denny and Kathy Dennis, Jeff and Pam Dennis, and Cindy and Randy French. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ethan Gaines, Caio Tubbs, Matteo Tubbs, Wyatt Russell Tubbs, Oliver Emery, and Oscar Emery, and seventeen nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the United Church of Richville on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by her memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralshomes.com.
