Mary Livingston Bew, 88, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. She was Born on August 21, 1936, in Gouverneur, NY to parents Rockwell and Jessie Chilton Livingston. She was a graduate of Gouverneur High School and the State University of New York at Potsdam.
After teaching one year in Rochester, NY, Mary moved to Sarasota. She taught in Preschool and Kindergarten from 1970 to 1992 at Booker and Fruitville Elementary schools. She was a charter member of Sigma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Iota, participating in support of education.
She and her husband, Robert, volunteered with Grace Fellowship for many years, then with Bahia Vista Mennonite Church (now Sarasota Community Church), with Resurrection House, and in their community at Sunnyside Village.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert Bew and is survived by her son, David Roger Theetge of Charleston; daughter Janis Theetge Horn of Miami; stepsons Bob Bew (Kelli and daughter Kayla) of Palm Beach, and David Bew of Los Angeles; stepdaughter Deborah (Dr. David Liu and children Delphine, Clemens and Endymion) of Durham. Also her brothers and sister-in-law: Rockwell Livingston (Mary Ann Maguire) of New Orleans, and Gordon Butler (Donna) of Ormond Beach; a nephew, five nieces, eleven cousins and their families.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 30th at 3:00 p.m. in Sunnyside Chapel, 5201 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota followed by a reception. Gifts in honor of Mary may be directed to Sunnyside Foundation, 5201 Bahia Vista, Sarasota, Fl 34232.
