Ida was born in her parents’ home on March 16th, 1934, in Balmat, NY with the help of her Aunt Mamie Manzolati as was custom back then. She was the third daughter of Ellis and Pierina (Fossati) Manzolati. She attended school in Balmat and then graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1952 where she played the trumpet in the band. After high school, Ida went on to CCBI Business School in Syracuse.
She met the love of her life, John Alfred Langtry when he was home on leave from the Army. They married shortly after on October 12th 1963 at the St. James Catholic Church. A week after they were married, they left for Germany where John was stationed. They stayed for 3 years learning the German culture and meeting lifetime friends who still send Christmas cards. After John was honorably discharged, they returned home and started a life in Richville where they lived within earshot of John’s loving parents Howard and Marceline Langtry, his sister Shirley and family and his brother Lawrence and family. In Richville Ida found a wonderful life with her family. She was a member of the Richville Fireman’s Auxiliary with her close friends Stella, Janet and numerous others. John and Ida bought a camp on Lake Bonaparte after John retired where they became members of the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club. When John passed on March 9th, 2002 she moved to Gouverneur and lived next to her daughter Lori-Anne and family. In Gouverneur she became a member of the Senior Citizens club and went on various trips where she came home and excitedly told her family the stories and shared her pictures. She attended the gym in Gouverneur for several years and found her “Gym girls” with whom she shared many lunches over the years.
Ida couldn’t wait to share pictures or stories of her grandchildren Joshua, Lindsey, Danielle, Hannah and Jakob or of her Great-Children Rocky and Louise. She was so proud of them and loved them all dearly.
As she got older, she missed her dear friends in passing, her sister-in-law Shirley and close friends Stella, Janet, Marge and Barb. She relished the time spent with her forever sister-in-law Lois and dear friends Carol and Lillian.
She was an avid reader of romance novels and enjoyed looking through old Richville Recipe Books. Each year she looked forward to the St. Lawrence County Fair where she would enter her gardenia mix when she lived in Richville and later her grape jelly when she moved to Gouverneur where she took home several blue ribbons. When she visited Lake Bonaparte, she loved spending time with her family and enjoyed the pontoon rides. At home she worked on her knitting and puzzles which she could put together quicker than anyone in her family. She also loved going on car rides all over with her son Tom and daughter Lori-Anne. As everyone soon came to know, March was her birthday month, and the family shared many homemade Ravioli meals from a recipe passed down from her parents and theirs before them.
The family would like to express their profound appreciation for Ida’s caregivers, especially Linda who became a dear friend of Ida’s over the many years she cared for her. What special people caregivers are.
Surviving is her daughter Lori-Anne and Michael McCormick, a son Thomas Langtry both of Gouverneur, five grandchildren Joshua, Lindsey (Jordan), Danielle (Dillon), Hannah and Jakob, two great-grandchildren, Rocky and Louise, also many nieces and nephews who thought so much of their “Aunt Ida”.
Ida is predeceased by her husband John, her parents Ellis and Pierina Manzolati, a son Brian Langtry and two sisters; Rita who died in infancy and her beloved sister Mary Lucia “Lu” LaPorte and husband Bruce.
Donations may be made in Ida’s memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, P.O. Box 510, Potsdam, NY 13676 or to Richville Volunteer Fire Department, 71 Main Street, Richville, NY 13681.
