Retha H. Brown, age 92, passed away on February 11, 2018, at the Gouverneur Hospital. There will be a memorial service honoring Retha in the spring. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Retha was born on June 18, 1925, at the family homestead in Lairdsville, NY to the late Frederick William and Lela Thirza (Jackson) Hiller. She graduated from the Vernon High School in 1942 and from the Utica School of Commerce in 1944. Retha married the Rev. Stanley E. Brown on June 18, 1949, at the Westmoreland Methodist Church officiated by her soon-to-be father-in-law, the Rev. Russell S. Brown. For the next 40 years, the Browns served the parishes of Hamilton, Gouverneur, North Gouverneur, and Massena, NY. In retirement the couple returned to their home in Gouverneur and served the United Church of Richville parish. Stanley passed away on November 6, 1993.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gouverneur, where she held office in the local church and served on committees at the District and Conference levels. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was a past President and Treasurer of Unit 2.
Her community service was tireless. She was a member and past President of the Travelers Club, a Girl Scout Leader, and a Board member of Cambray Housing Corporation where she served as President from 2004-2010. At the time of her death she was an active life member of the EJ Noble/Gouverneur Hospital Auxiliary; she was a member of the Gouverneur Library Board, and a member of the Gouverneur Garden Club. She also captained a local trivia team, known as “The Brownies,” in support of the Gouverneur Reading Room.
Mrs. Brown was an artist, painting in oils, and showed her works at the Gouverneur Museum in the summer of 2012. She was an accomplished seamstress and an exceptional baker. One of her great loves was wildlife, including wild flowers, birds, and animals.
Her survivors include three children: son Craig H. Brown and his wife, Karen, and their children, Weston, Eleanor and Drew; daughter Lynne J. Brown and her wife, Shannon Rodes, and their daughters, Alexandra and Galen; daughter Dayle B. Burgess and her husband, Michael, and their children, Madeline and Nathaniel; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Retha is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Virgil Smith; and a niece, Elaine Smith Malecki.

Lorraine was born on June 19, 1936 in Russell, the daughter of Harold and Lex Hill Merkley.
She graduated from Knox Memorial School in 1953 and the attended Canton ATI and Ogdensburg Business School.
Lorraine was married to Fredric Maine who passed away in 1980 and Leo R. Knight who passed away in 2004.
She worked in public health for New York State and for St. Lawrence County for over 30 years. Lorraine had been a member of the Gouverneur Garden Club and the Gouverneur Daughters of Rebekah. She enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens making ceramics, and adored her cat Felicia.
Lorraine is survived by her three children Sheldon and Marilyn Maine of Gouverneur, Barry Maine and his companion Donna McArthur of Clay, Kelley and Joe Lacks of Sylvia Lake, her six grandchildren Marcie, Ryan, Erica, Matthew, Anthony, and Jered, eleven great grandchildren, a brother John Merkley of North Carolina, nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family.

Lois was born on December 7, 1926 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Charles and Bertha (Gladle) Dane. She went to rural area schools and then attended Gouverneur High School. Lois married Malcomb “Shorty” Strate on July 12, 1945 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gouverneur. Shorty passed away on March 18, 1992.
Lois worked in the cafeteria of the Gouverneur Central School for 27 years, retiring at the age of 73. While working at the school, she also did various jobs at the Gouverneur Tribune Press for 23 years. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and working on crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed going on Sunday rides with her son Randy and the dogs, Lady, Annie and Maggie.
Surviving are three sons, Terry Strate of Washington, Larry Strate of Buffalo and Randy Strate of Gouverneur; two daughters, Susan Cryderman of Virginia and Laura and Robert Hughes of Gouverneur; a brother, John Dane of Rochester and eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Lois is predeceased by her parents, her husband, three daughters, Shirley Mitchell, Dianna Bowhall and Kathy Goodison; a brother, Jimmy Dane: a sister, Francis Downing and a great granddaughter, Bryonna Given.

Jeffery was born on May 13, 1993 in Watertown, the son of Joanie Cunningham Cole.
He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 2011, had received training at emt/paramedic school, and recently graduated from SLTC lineman school in Georgia.
Jeff had been employed at the Gouverneur Rescue Squad and by Lewis County Search & Rescue.
He had many interests including motorcycle riding, becoming a lineman, fishing, and having a drink around the bonfire. Jeff also enjoyed helping people in need, saving lives, saving his money, and spending time with family and friends, especially his son, Kade.
Jeffery is survived by his son Kade Cole, his mother Joanie, his sister Brittany and Jeremey Barker of Syracuse, his grandfather Ralph Cunningham and his companion Terry Davison of Gouverneur, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Jeff had many friends but a few such as Josh Walrath, Alex Bylow, and Jared Prashaw he considered brothers. He is predeceased by his grandmother Evelyn Cunningham.

Gouverneur - Leonilda "Jane" Gates, 97, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, August 22nd from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm with a funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Fr. Shane Lynch, pastor of St. James Catholic Church officiating and burial with military honors in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Leonilda was born on February 26, 1920 in Gouverneur, one of fourteen children of Claude and Agnes Shortt Gates.
Jane graduated from Gouverneur Dean High School and served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. She was a member of the 402nd ASF Army band. Upon her honorable discharge, Jane attended and graduated from Rochester Business Institute.
She worked at the Montgomery Wards catalog store in Gouverneur for 31 years and was the store manager for several years.
Jane lived on Williams Street all her life and was a member of the Gouverneur American Legion, served in its band, and often played Taps at military honors ceremonies. She also enjoyed studying genealogy, hunting, and fishing.
Jane is survived by her brother Claude R. Gates of Gouverneur, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Claude H. Gates and Agnes Shortt Gates, her brothers Yale, Jerome, Paul Kenneth, and James Kermit "Bill" Gates, her sisters Vena Davey, Orpha Bennett, Ann Brown, Teresa Butler, Mary Moran, Eleanor J. GOUVERNEUR – Ivan “Hop” D. Matice, age 67, of Gouverneur, passed away on August 19, 2017 at the Gouverneur Hospital surrounded by his wife and children. Ivan, known as Hop or Papa, was born on August 17, 1950 in Gouverneur to the late Webb Matice, Sr. and Fern (Fields) Matice. He attended the Gouverneur Central School and married Sharon VanOrnum on August 18, 1979 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church.
Hop worked as a janitor for the West Side Elementary School for many years. He also worked for a meat packing plant in Brier Hill, was a janitor for Palms Restaurant, and most recently worked for the NYSARC Bottle Redemption Centers in Hermon and Gouverneur.
Ivan enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. He was a well-liked man who seemed to know everybody. Despite being disabled, he loved life and was a true fighter. He loved watching his grandkids play sports, eating his nightly Hershey bars and riding his scooter. Lately he has enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, the Price is Right, and the nightly news.
His survivors include his wife, Sharon; three children, Jason Matice, Michael Matice and his wife, Alicia, Heather Matice and her partner, Stefan Evans; a brother, Carl Matice; and two sisters, Christine Reynolds and Rose Fifield. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Gavin Evans, Audrina Evans, Joseph Hogle, Jonathan Hogle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ivan is predeceased by three sisters, Shirley Jones, Norma Dusharm, Sue Dashnaw; and four brothers, Alvin and Webb Matice, and Don and Allan Aldridge.

He was born in Potsdam, NY to the late Charles and Margaret (Lawrence) Jesmer.
Don proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1945-1949. He worked as a Zinc Miner for St. Joe's Mineral Corporation and retired after many years. He was an avid outdoorsman especially loving to fish and hunt.
Survived by son: Stephen (Donna) Jesmer; daughter: Debbie (Gary) Schaefer; daughter in law: Carol Jesmer; grandchildren: Nicole, Ricky, Brenda, Shannon, Summer, Brandy, Desiree, Lindsey, Kinsey, Kaitlyn, and Carley; 13 great grandchildren; many extended family and friends.

Pat married Grant L. Brundage on April 26, 1958 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Gouverneur.
She had worked as a secretary for local attorney offices and for the corporate offices of Kinney Drugs.
Pat enjoyed sewing, quilting, making crafts, and bowling.
She is survived by her husband Grant, a son Mark Brundage and his fiancé Stacie McMurray of Plessis, a daughter Lori and Jeff Donaldson of Gouverneur, 2 grandsons Jeffrey and Heather Donaldson, Ryan and Crystal Donaldson, and 2 great grandsons Jared Donaldson and William Donaldson. Pat is also survived by a brother Richard Jones of Phoenix, NY, 3 sisters Sharon Keyes of Fullerville, Sandy Kastler of Lacona, Sonja Farr of Gouverneur, several nieces and nephews. Benjamin was born in Gouverneur on September 20, 1965, the son of Alton and Jane Adamo Royce.
He attended Hermon-DeKalb School most of his youth and graduated from Gouverneur Central School.
Following graduation, he entered the United States Army and served for 8 years, including service in Southwest Asia during Desert Storm, and received a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. During his service, Ben was stationed in Hawaii, Germany, Georgia, and Texas, among other places.
On May 2, 1991, Ben married Donna Lawton in Gouverneur with Wallace Sibley officiating.
He enjoyed researching genealogy, watching WWE wrestling, visiting the casino, photography, and taking long walks to be out in nature.
Ben is survived by his wife Donna, his two children Megan Danyelle Royce and Alexander David Royce, both of Ogdensburg, his siblings Dolores and Randy House of Fowler, Roger and Christine Royce of Edwards, Fred Royce of Gouverneur, John Royce of Gouverneur, Aunt Sally and Uncle Alan Hall of Oneida, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister Rachel Royce, and 2 brothers, Darrell Royce and Michael Royce.

Edith Herheim, Gouverneur, passed away at the age of 98.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon O. Herheim; her parents, Henry J. (Pete) and Edith Curtis; her sisters, Jeanne (Toby) Tyler and Hon (Howard) VanNorton. She leaves her children, Dianne Winters, Rochester; David (Janice) Herheim, Gouverneur; Sue Sharpe, Romulus; Marsha Littwitz, Rochester; and Janice Herheim, Malone; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her sister, Joanne Phelps, Farmville, NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of Gouverneur, she graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1936 and attended Crane School of Music. She could often be seen riding her bicycle around town into her mid-80’s and made a daily stop at the Donut Shop where she was a member of the Golden Girls. She loved traveling and volunteered for the E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary, the Gouverneur Garden Club, and the Gouverneur public Library.

Robert L. Emerson
Robert L. Emerson, 74, of Sparrowbush, N.Y,. entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home with his devoted wife, Beth and youngest daughter, Kristen by his side.
He was born September 25, 1942 in Potsdam, N.Y. the son of the late Robert H. and the late Alice Gowell Emerson. He was predeceased by his brother in law, Russell Otto of Rio, N.Y. as well as a handful of his nearest and dearest friends. He was predeceased by his loyal companion, Abbey, his Scottish terrier.
He proudly served our country in the United States Navy, stationed in Port Hueneme, CA, where he received an honorable discharge on January 22, 1962.
In 1972, while in Binghamton, NY, Bob met the love of his life, Beth, a nursing student and him, a scuba diving instructor.
Bob was the building inspector for the Town of Deerpark for 17 years; the longest amount of time held by one person in this position as of yet. He was very fond of his coworkers, and them of him. He was also a member of the NYS Builders Association.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time on the lake near his hometown with his brother, David. He was truly Bob the Builder, as he was often seen on his property riding his backhoe and other various heavy machinery. He had a large collection of vintage snow mobiles, having 28 at one time. He enjoyed attending car shows and swap meets with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a car enthusiast, with focus on hot rods, antique and classic cars, having acquired numerous throughout his lifetime.
The family urges and encourages anyone who will be attending the funeral, as in true enthusiast style, to bring your classic cars as a tribute to Bob.
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years Beth Koenig Emerson, children: Jason Emerson and his wife of Sparrowbush, Alicia Bennett and her husband James of Queensland, Australia, Kristen Emerson and her fiancé Joseph Boucher of Port Jervis, N.Y., Jeffrey Emerson and his wife Linda of Milford, PA, Gina Emerson of Seguin, TX, Wendy Emerson of Austin, TX. Brother David Emerson and his wife Carolyn of Harrisville, NY. Sister: Catherine Emerson-Erwin and her husband James of Boston, MA. Sisters in law: Loretta Buchanan of Matamoras, PA and Linda Otto of Rio, NY. Brother in Law: Lawrence Koenig of Destin, FL. Daughter In Law Maria Emerson of Goshen, N.Y.
Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Anthony, Shiloh, Savannah, Victoria, Sara, William and Alexa. He had an especially close bond with his three youngest grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Emerson and Leila Bennett, who lovingly called him “Poppy”. He also had one great grandchild.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Also his beloved dog Tiggy, his Cairn terrier.

Theron was born on September 22, 1957 in Gouverneur, the son of Theron "Sonny" and Fern "Sally" McIntosh Bice.
He graduated from Gouverneur High School and attended college before serving in the United States Army for 12 years and the Army Reserves for 8 years.
Theron married Vicki Peck on August 24, 1985.
He worked in construction and was employed at Fort Drum for 20 years.
Bud enjoyed hunting, gardening, making maple syrup and wood crafts. He was also a fan of NASCAR, cheering on Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Junior, enjoyed bowling, flea markets, and was a favorite of the kids around Easter time, hiding hundreds of eggs for them to find.
Bud is survived by his wife Vicki, his children Catherine and Erik Bice of Fowler, Maison Pankey of Gouverneur, grandchildren Zayden and Caylana Bice, brothers Russell Bice, Nelson and Nancy Bice, sister Michelle and John Walrath Sr., many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother Kelvin Bice Sr., a sister Evelyn Sanders, a nephew Benjamin Pankey, nieces Natalie Bice and Jasmine Pankey.

Nettie was born on November 19, 1916 in Russell to the late Elmer and Lulu (Dugall) Traver. She married Earl V. Link on August 13, 1935. Mr. Link passed away on July 5, 1980.
Mrs. Link lived in Gouverneur until moving to Spencerport in 1999. She had worked as a clerk for W.T. Grant’s and Ames Department Stores.
Nettie loved time spent with her family, especially during Sunday dinners. She enjoyed reading books, knitting, and was a member of the Rebekah’s.
Her survivors include her son and his wife, Gary and Ann Link of Spencerport; her daughter and her husband, Carol and Bruce Ayers of Spencerport; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Marvin B. Matthews, Jr., age 59, of Pitcairn, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
There will be a funeral service held outside at the Gouverneur Elks Lodge on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life and luncheon inside the Elks Lodge. Anyone who is unable to attend the service but would like to gather at the luncheon is welcome to come and share stories, laughter, and a meal with family and friends.

Marvin was born on January 19, 1958 in Lincoln, ME, the son of Marvin B. Matthews, Sr. and the late Janice E. (Smith) Matthews.
He lived with his family in Brushton and Gouverneur. He graduated from the Gouverneur Central School and was educated in the Electrical Trades at Southwest Technical Center. He served in the United States Navy from 1976 until his honorable discharge in 1979.
Marvin married Connie A. Hendrick on July 25, 1987 at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church with Rev. Everett Waite officiating. The couple built their beautiful home together over the years.
Marvin was a perfectionist with a larger than life attitude. He loved fishing, especially fishing for walleye on the St. Lawrence River, as well as ice fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, and restoring motorcycles, old trucks, and antiques.
He was a former member of two hunting clubs: the Bingo Club and Owl Mountain Club. He enjoyed traveling to his family’s lakeside camp in Maine.
His greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Carly. She was his best accomplishment.
Marvin recently retired as a line foreman for National Grid. He proudly worked for the utility since 1991. He was a member of IBEW Local #1249. He had previously worked in construction for several companies, performing roofing, electrical work and carpentry. He was a jack of all trades, and was a master of many.
His survivors include his wife, Connie of Pitcairn; his daughter, Carly R. Matthews of Delmar; his father, Marvin B. Matthews, Sr. of Gouverneur; and sisters, Rhonda J. Bowen of Brushton and Carolee S. and Dennis Premo of Fowler. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Marvin is predeceased by his mother, Janice Matthews; and an infant brother, Gregory William Matthews.

Lawrence G. "Larry" Cole, 81, Antwerp, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Calling hours were on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 1p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Beth Quick, pastor of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating and burial in Hailesboro Cemetery.
Lawrence was born in Gouverneur on October 1, 1935, the son of Glenn and Monibel Brown Cole.
He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army Reserve.
On August 22, 1957, Larry married Marjorie K. Andrews at the United Methodist Church parsonage with Rev. Wood officiating.
Larry worked at Cassaw's Gas Station, Dodd's Shell Station, Dodds Motor Company, International Talc Company, and he retired from the paper mill in Natural Dam in 1997 after 35 years of employment.
He was an outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family cottage on Black Lake. Larry was also an avid NASCAR fan, cheering for everyone not named Jimmy Johnson.
Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years Marjorie, his children Rocky and Carol Cole of Alaska, Roxanne and Ronald Slate of Gouverneur, Daniel Cole of Gouverneur, Dana and Amy Cole of Antwerp, his brother Scott and Sharon Cole of E. Syracuse, his sisters Gloria and Gary Smith of Harrisville, Delores and Ronald Hartle of Gouverneur, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason and Claudia Slate of Arizona, Matthew and Kelli Slate of Westvale, Gregory Cole and Kim Hilligas of Gouverneur, Nathan and Megan Cole of Gouverneur, Jonathon Cole of Antwerp, Timothy and Jacki Burns of Alaska, a stepgrandson Adam and Kristine Fykes of Alaska, his great grandchildren Alaxa, Erik, and Hannah Slate, Ethan and Quinn Slate, Wyette and Willow Cole, Teagan and Vivian Cole, Velelina and Chaeli Burns.
Larry is predeceased by his parents Glenn and Monibel, a brother Richard Cole, a daughter-in-law Jody Cole, and a great granddaughter Macy Slate.

Francis D. “Red Fox” Briggs, age 80, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Gouverneur Hospital.

Francis was born on March 30, 1937 to the late Margaret (Briggs) Meyers. He attended Gouverneur School and was raised by Ralph and Olive Pratt in Hailesboro. I
n 1955, he entered into the United States Air Force and served until his honorable discharge in 1959. Francis married Denelda Fuller on March 25, 1960 at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley Brown officiating. He worked as a truck driver for Potters Industries in Potsdam. He had previously worked at Kraft Foods, St. Lawrence County and McCallister’s.
Francis was a member of the Dads of Foreign War and was a former volunteer fireman for the Hermon and Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Departments. He loved camping at Brennan Beach and going on golf cart rides with his dog.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Denelda; three sons, Earl and Penny Briggs, Eric and Kathryn Briggs and Scott Briggs; a daughter, Coleen Desormeaux and her companion Bill Farr; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a granddaughter, Deseray Briggs.

DeEtta Heh, 92, Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, July 2 from 1p.m. to 2p.m. Funeral servicesfollowed at 2p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur, with Rev. Howard Maxson, pastor of Fowler Baptist Church, officiating. Burial immediately followed at Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
DeEtta was born in Gouverneur on June 25, 1925, the daughter of Albert and Vera Porter Matthews.
She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1943 and lived most of her life in the Gouverneur area before moving to Delphi Falls and recently to Clay, NY. DeEtta was employed at P&C Supermarket for 26 years, retiring in 1985.
DeEtta married her first husband, Francis Whitmore and had two sons Ronald and Richard. She subsequently married James Roycroft who predeceased her. In 1967, she married Raymond Heh who passed away in 1988.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Whitmore (Tina) of Liverpool and Ronald Whitmore of Idaho and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a brother Elon Matthews of Liverpool, and several nephews.
DeEtta is predeceased by her husbands, parents, and a sister Janis LeClaire.

Gregory L. Cox, 48, Gouverneur, went to be with his son, Anthony, who he cherished for 967 days, on Monday, June 26, 2017.
Greg was an organic dairy farmer, a devoted father and husband, and a deeply loved man.
He is survived by his wife Amy, his children Devin, Donovan, Zachary, Samuel, and Rose. Greg is also survived by his parents Charles and Louise Cox of Syracuse, maternal grandfather Raymond Heer of Marcellus, his brothers and sisters-in-law Glenn and Jennifer of Syracuse, Geoffrey and Heather of Iron Station, NC, Geremy and Adrienne of Gouverneur, Garrett and Jacqueline of Syracuse, 15 nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Friday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm and burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville.

Evelyn Fern Sanders, 60, Gouverneur, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Canton – Potsdam Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Evelyn was born on September 27, 1956 in Gouverneur, the daughter of Theron “Sonny” and Fern “Sally” McIntosh Bice.
She graduated from Gouverneur High School and Mater Dei with an associate’s degree in business.
Evelyn was involved with her children’s activities and served as a leader of 4-H, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts and was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, camping, gardening, canning, baking, spending time with her grandkids, and was known for writing poems.
She is survived by her children Sandra O’Mara, Elizabeth and Randy Abar, and Theron Pankey, her grandchildren Mersaydie, Micheal, Maison, Makyle, Markeyce, Marrionna, Rebecca, William, Ryan, Austin, Theron, Dillian, Tylor, Caroline, and Michael. Evelyn is also survived by her siblings Michelle and John Walrath, Theron “Bud” and Vicki Bice, Nelson and Nancy Bice, and Russell Bice, many nieces and nephews.
She was a daughter to Sonny and Sally, grandmother to Benjamin Pankey and Jasmine Pankey, sister to Kelvin Bice Sr., aunt to Natalie Bice, who have all passed away before her.

Irvon was born on May 31, 1942 in Gouverneur to the late Glendon and Gladys (Blair) Thomas. He went to the Gouverneur Central School through sixth grade and graduated from the Rome School for the Deaf in 1961. Irvon has lived most of his life in Syracuse.
His survivors include his sisters, Sandra and Gary Weaver of Greencastle, PA and Amber and Wellington Swem of Gouverneur. He also has two aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
