Gouverneur Recreation Director Casey Canell of Gouverneur was recognized for his 25 years of dedicated service at the Village of Gouverneur Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, July 20 in the municipal courtroom.

Director Canell was presented a certificate of recognition and a 25-year pin.

The recognition celebration was a surprise for Director Canell, and he was extended many words of congratulations from all those present.

“Thank you very much,” Director Canell said. “I don’t know where the last 25 years have gone… When I’m at the park this week, and these kids are coming, and they are chuckling because their parents used to come as kids. It puts into perspective, I think… But thank you very much. I really appreciate that.”

“You’re welcome, my friend,” Village of Gouverneur Mayor Ron McDougall said.

Mayor McDougall then added that the Village of Gouverneur is thankful that the Gouverneur Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Recreation Program, under Director Canell’s leadership, has been a success. The next meeting of the Village of Gouverneur Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 6 p.m., in the municipal courtroom.
