More than 30 local youth enrolled in the Gouverneur Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program were visited by the Gouverneur Police Department on Thursday, July 22 at Riverview Recreational Park in Gouverneur.
This is the second in a three-part series of visits from local agencies, organized by Gouverneur Recreation Director Casey Canell.
Village of Gouverneur Chief of Police Laurina Greenhill and Gouverneur Police Department Officer Nathan Sheen were spurned by the youths inquisitive questions to talk about careers in policing, a police officer’s uniform and equipment, and their role in the community. Chief Greenhill also answered questions about “stranger danger” and calling 911 in the case of emergency. The youth were then invited to check out the Gouverneur Police apparatus on site.
On Thursday, July 29, at 10:15 a.m., the youth enrolled in the Gouverneur Recreation Summer Youth Program will receive a visit from the Gouverneur Rescue Squad.
