Laura A. Swem, age 64, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

There were calling hours for Laura on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service immediately followed at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Jay Seymour officiating. Burial will follow at Spragueville Cemetery. Laura was born on April 30, 1961 in Gouverneur, NY to the late Robert and Coreline (Cook) Lamar. She graduated from Indian River High School in 1979 and then went on to earn her Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Jefferson Community College. Laura married Earl S. Swem on July 7, 1984 at her parent’s home in Oxbow with Justice of Peace Donald Hull officiating. She and Earl lived in Spragueville all of their married life.

Laura worked with the deaf as friends and fellow students in college. She had a love for animals, enjoyed crocheting and making tie blankets for people. Since 2017, she would make trips to Plattsburgh and Burlington for Christmas shopping and maple candy.

Surviving is her husband, Earl; a son, Robert Swem; a step son, Jeffrey Swem; a step daughter, Denise; a brother, Jeffrey Lamar and three sisters, Barbara, Annette and Mary.
