Isabel Jones, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service at 4p.m.
Isabel was born on January 6, 1938 in Cardinal, Ontario, Canada to the late Albert and Dora Pearl (Workman) Holliday. A marriage to Gary M. Jones ended in divorce.
Isabel retired as a stenographer for St. Lawrence County Public Health in Gouverneur. She had previously worked as a secretary for the Canada Starch Company, the Gouverneur Central School, and for the NAVY recruiting office in Gouverneur.
She enjoyed making jams with her sister, Jean, playing Bingo, attending the Friday luncheons at the Gouverneur Methodist Church, and travelling all over the world. She was a Life Member of the Gouverneur-St. Lawrence County Fair and enjoyed attending the events hereevery summer.
Isabel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Kathy Jones; her granddaughter, Sabrina Jones; and a sister, Jean Thompson.
She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, David Andrew Holliday.

Robert M. Petrie
Robert M. Petrie, age 81, of Macomb, passed away suddenly on September 1, 2016 at the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg after becoming ill at home.

Robert was born in Natural Dam on July 12, 1935 to the late William and Lyla (McPherson) Petrie. He attended the Gouverneur Central School and served in the National Guard Army Reserves.
He married Sandra T. Tulley on June 14, 1958 at the Heuvelton United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Kelsey Bicknell. Robert worked as a roofer for the Farley Roofing Company for 21 years before retiring in 1995.
Mr. Petrie was a member of the Roofer’s Union, the DeKalb Am Vets, the N.R.A., and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
His survivors include his wife, Sandra; sons, William, Lonny and his wife, Heidi and Robert Petrie; daughters, Robyne Petrie-Platt and Candace Petrie; sons-in-law, Sam Parker, Michael Platt and Robert Thomas, Jr.; a sister, Bonnie Petrie; and brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Dawn Petrie. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
Robert is predeceased by a son, James Petrie, a daughter, Sherry Parker, two brothers, Lyle and Donald Petrie, and two granddaughters, Tiffany Petrie and Laura Petrie Weir.

Leonard W. Lambert
Leonard W. Lambert, Jr., age 79, of Gouverneur, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at his home.
Calling hours for Leonard will be on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6p.m. to 9p.m. and again on Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with his funeral service starting at 11a.m. at French Funeral Home in Edwards. Leonard was born on December 25, 1936 in Geneva, N.Y. to the late Leonard W. and Mamie (Scott) Lambert Sr. He attended Gorham Central School and then later he entered into the United States Air Force. He worked for different farmers and also worked with heavy equipment running various dozers. Leonard married Helen Gage on April 17, 1959 in the Town of Seneca. They operated his parents' farm in the Town of Gorham for two years.
In 1962, they purchased a small vineyard in Yates County. He also worked for Shay Gas and Oil, Penn Yan Express, operated his own dozer, worked construction and worked for another vineyardist.
In 1975, the couple purchased and operated Thy Will Dairy Farmand operated it for 24 years in West Hermon.
After retiring, they purchased a small home in the Town of Gouverneur, where Leonard enjoyed working for other farmers and began a hobby of woodworking. Throughout most of his life, he also enjoyed riding and working with horses.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Helen; three sons, Todd and Dianna Lambert of DeGrasse, Leonard Aaron Lambert and his companion Jean Storie of Gouverneur and K. Kristan Lambert and his companion Ellen Johnson of Gouverneur; three daughters, Kelley and Stan Edick of Whitesboro, Tracy and Kelvin Perrigo of Gouverneur and Lorrine Lambert and her companion Larry M. Allen of Gouverneur; a brother, Edward Lambert of Branch Port, N.Y.; a sister, Leola Melious of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard is predeceased by his parents; a brother Donald Lambert; two sisters, Clara Saunderson and Mildred Woodley; and a grandson, Zachary Randall.

Margaret Ryder
A memorial service was held for Margaret Ryder, Gouverneur, on Monday, August 1 at 3 p.m. at the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church with Judy Sibley officiating. Arrangements are with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Margaret, 72, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse.
Margaret was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on September 21, 1943, the daughter of Hollis and Deatta Prescott Pevear.
She graduated from high school in New Hampshire and received licensed practical nurses training. Margaret also served in the United States Army.
Margaret was employed at Rockingham County Children's Home in New Hampshire, various hospitals and nursing homes, and retired from Punta Gorda Care Center in Florida. Her favorite job was working with children with disabilities.
She lived most of her life in New Hampshire and Florida, the last several years in Gouverneur, and recently moved to Canton.
Margaret enjoyed Bible study, writing poetry, and spending time with family, especially her great grandchildren.
She was previously married to Edward Ryder.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Theresa "Terry" and Mario Pistolesi of Gouverneur, two grandchildren Crystal Salter of Tampa, FL, Justin and Katie Salter of Gouverneur, four great grandchildren Alaynna, Colton, Grady, and Luca, a brother Irving Pevear and his companion Jackie McCarthy of Dunbarton, N.H., a sister Marion Pevear of Newport Richey, FL, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents.

Wayne F. Dusharm
Wayne F. Dusharm, age 64, of Gouverneur, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Wayne was born on December 19, 1951 in Gouverneur to the late Clyde F. and Beatrice M. (McIntosh) Dusharm.
He attended school at New York State School for the Deaf in Rome, N.Y. at the age of three and graduated in 1971.
He lost his hearing as a toddler due to meningitis. While attending the school of the deaf, at the age of 16 he lost his vision in his right eye due to a BB gun shot wound. While he was at school he was active in sports. He particularly loved playing basketball and won many awards. After graduation, he started working at Dodds Motors Corp. detailing cars. He left Dodds and started working at the Tribune Press, and there he found his love for graphic design.
He married Cheryl Sullivan in 1976. The marriage ended in divorce, but the couple remained friends. After his divorce, he decided to pursue his love of graphic design and attended St. Paul T.V.I. Prep School for the Deaf in St. Paul, MN from 1979-1980, receiving a certificate as a master printer.
He enrolled in Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluff, Iowa in 1980-1982, receiving his associates degree in graphic arts design. After graduating, he moved to Brookings, SD, working at Daktronics, making scoreboards and electrical signs. He moved to Madison, WI for a short time doing odd jobs, then moved back to New York in 1985.
He started working at Compas in Ogdensburg leaving due to eye strain. He worked at the NYSARC bottle redemption center and then went to work at Service Master in Gouverneur. His final place of employment and where he retired from was at the Gouverneur Cemetery Association.
Wayne is survived by his siblings, Gary and Carol Dusharm, Brookings, SD, Rodney Dusharm of Gouverneur and Darlene and Gregg Gonyeau of Gouverneur; nieces and nephews, Rhonda VanOrnam, Christopher, Jeremy, Kevin, and Daryl Dusharm, Jessica Gardner, Mandy Perrin, Melissa Hall, Melissa Woodward, Gaige and Garrison Gonyeau; nine great nieces and nephews and three great-great nephews.
Wayne’s disabilities did not keep him from living a full, adventurous life. He was an avid Yankee, Minnesota Viking, Syracuse Orangeman fan. He loved his friends, family and he loved to travel.
Calling hours for Wayne were on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 2p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with the funeral immediately following at 2p.m. with Pastor Orville Eacker officiating. Burial will follow at East Riverside Cemetery.

Thelma L. “Sally” Bullock
Thelma Lou “Sally” Bullock, age 83, of Edwards, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
There were calling hours for Sally on Wednesday, July 27 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Edwards. Her funeral service was on Thursday, July 28at the Edwards United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards.
Sally was born on September 7, 1932 in Heuvelton, NY to the late Cecil and Cecile (Woodrow) Smith. She attended Elm Creek Rural School in Russell and then graduated from Knox Memorial Central School. Sally then attended one year at St. Lawrence University.
She married Clifford B. Bullock on October 19, 1950 at the Gouverneur Methodist Parsonage. The couple owned and operated Willow Shade Dairy Farm for many years.
She was a former secretary and treasurer of the St. Lawrence Valley Ayrshire Club, a member of the AFS, a former Scottish Angels 4-H Leader, a former member of the Edwards PTA and a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crafting and traveling.
Sally is survived by her husband, Clifford of Edwards; two sons and their wives, William and Sheila Bullock and Larry and Deborah Bullock, all of Edwards; three daughters and their husbands, Joanne and Richard Lynn of West Cornwall, CT, Barbara and Charles Newcombe of Edwards and Carole and David LaVoie of Fulton.
Sally is also survived by 17 grandchildren, of whom they raised their granddaughter, Brenda Coronato of Rayeford, NC; three step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, William and Willard Smith; her grandfather who raised her, Willard Smith and step grandmother Mabel and her grandmother Maude Smith.

Mary Lee Woodrow
Mary Lee Woodrow, 75, of Gouverneur passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Calling hours were Thursday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with a funeral service following at noon at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Gregory Bailey, pastor of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Gouverneur officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.

Mary was born at home in Pyrites on April 7, 1941, the daughter of Albert and Dorothy James Dafoe.
She graduated from high school and worked many years in the local area including JJ Newberry's for over 20 years, at St. Lawrence University as a line cook, and more recently at McDonald's in Gouverneur.
Mary married Lawrence E. Woodrow on July 19, 1975 at the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stanley E. Brown presiding and the couple recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.
Mary enjoyed working hard, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence "Woody" Woodrow, her children- John A. Andrus and fiancé Ann Burstin of Balston Spa, Katherine M. Robbins of Somerville, Sheryl D. Holmes and husband Dan of Gouverneur, her grandchildren Jeffrey Robbins and fiance Amber Leween, Jessica Andrus-Companion and husband Kenneth, Jennifer Bouyea and husband Corey, James Andrus and wife Heather.
Mary is also survived by her sister Joyce Fountain and husband Sonny of Pyrites, Molly Tresidder of Russell, her stepchildren Lawrence Woodrow Jr. and wife Julie, Pam Bovay and husband Jody, Rusty Woodrow, Randy Woodrow, Ricky Woodrow and wife Trudy, several great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Sonny, Donnie, James, and Ronnie Dafoe andsisters Alice DeLorme, Janie Hooper, and Mary Ann Mussen.
Vivian G. (Siver) Whiting
Vivian G. (Siver) Whiting, age 94, of Winter Haven, Florida and Gouverneur passed away on May 31, 2016 at home in Winter Haven, FL.

Vivian was born on April 7, 1922 in Pitcairn to the late Earl B. and Mona L. (Curry) Tiffany. She graduated from the Carthage Area School in 1938 and from the Potsdam State College, Crane School of Music. She worked as a music teacher for the Gouverneur Central School until her retirement in 1979.
Vivian married J. Carl Siver on October 31, 1942. Mr. Siver passed away in 1973. Vivian married Gwyn R. Whiting on September 11, 1982 and the couple moved to Florida that year.
Vivian enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and working with needle point. She was a former member of the Gouverneur Order of Eastern Star, the American Guild of Organists, and was the organist for the Gouverneur Baptist Church as well as the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Gwyn R. Whiting; her son, John Siver; and step-children, Donald Whiting, Linda Price and Lisa Macias. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vivian is predeceased by her first husband, J. Carl Siver; a son, Robert; a daughter, Janet Loeffen and her sister, Wylna Beckman.

Louise McCarty
Louise M. McCarty, age 89, of Degrasse, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Highland Nursing Home in Massena.
Louise was born on July 17, 1927 in Degrasse to the late Garnold and Cherrie (Bates) Hance. She attended Knox Memorial High School. Louise married Richard D. McCarty on August 23, 1945. Richard passed away on September 19, 1998.
Louise worked in the cafeteria at Canton ATC for many years. She was a member of the Degrasse United Methodist Church, Degrasse Community Club and the Russell Senior Citizens. She enjoyed doing word searches, baking, crocheting and knitting.
Surviving are her six children, Dianna J. and Todd Lambert, Rick L. and Deborah McCarty, Dawn M. and Richard French, Carol A. and Lonny Scott, Katherine L. and Joseph Conklin and Michael P. McCarty; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.
Louise is predeceased by her sister, Muriel Barto and three brothers, Howard Francis, and Willis Hance.

Janice M. Lehan
Janice M. Lehan, 81, of Canton passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after being stricken at home.
Calling hours were held on Monday, July 11, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Parishville, NY.
Janice was born, October 5, 1934 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Elmer R. and Floy E. (Howe) Phelps. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1951 and attended the Emma Wallace Business School in Ogdensburg. On June 29, 1952, she married Rudolph M. Lehan at the Norwood First Methodist Church, with Rev. Allison C. Wood, pastor, officiating. Mr. Lehan predeceased her on November 19, 1997.
Janice and Rudy lived in Panama City, FL while he was in the US Air Force. Upon his discharge, the couple returned to Norwood. Janice worked at for the Gouverneur School District at the Brasie Corners Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and librarian. Later they returned to Florida and lived in Lake Worth for several years prior to Rudy’s death, Janice then returned to the North Country.
Janice enjoyed Bingo and Square Dancing and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Canton.
She is survived by a daughter, Roxann Paro and husband Kevin of Pulaski, by two grandsons, Kristoffer D. Paro and Jeremy A. Hall, by a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Paro; and by a brother, Wayne H. Phelps. A daughter Julie M. Hall predeceased her in 2002.

Richard (Dick) Parker
Richard A. Parker, 75, passed away June 7, 2016 in Greenfield, Mass. at the Franklin Medical Center.
Dick was born on February 1, 1941 in Gouverneur, to Walter and Grace (Hance) Parker. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1959. He joined the US Navy right after graduation. During his deployment, his ship had an active part in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Dick worked as an electrician for IBEW Local, NABA and Applied Dynamics until retirement.
He is survived by a brother Earl (Edwards), a sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) and Christopher Steele (Hailesboro) and a brother-in-law James Allen (Webster, N.Y.) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Laura Allen. A marriage to Sally LaPierre ended in divorce.
Dick was an avid sports fan and a loyal Greenfield baseball spectator. He had a love for trains and his family.
There will be no calling hours or funeral.
Martha A. Allen
Martha A. Allen, age 78, Edwards, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service at 12p.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Edwards at a later date.
Martha was born in Edwards on April 28, 1938 to the late Frank and Vesta (Rice) Allen. She attended school in Edwards.
On July 31, 1970 she married Duane Waugh. The marriage ended in divorce. Martha has lived in Edwards with her companion, Art Tibbits for over 30 years.
Martha was a member of the Edwards United Methodist Church, the Edwards Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Stars and she enjoyed reading and working on crossword puzzles.
Her survivors include her companion, Arthur Tibbits; her son and his wife, James and Jacqueline Allen of Pierpont; two brothers, James Allen of Webster, Vernon Allen of Las Vegas, NV; and five sisters, Nancy and David Bowhall of Philadelphia, Linda and Archie Whitton of Richville, Karen and James Whitton of Richville, Sally Matthews of Talcville, and Ellen and Francis Thornton of Philadelphia. Martha is also survived by two grandchildren, Sarah and Zachary Allen.
Martha is predeceased by a sister, Mabel Davison.

Martha Mary Willenbacher
Martha Mary Willenbacher, age 92 of Ogdensburg, but formerly of Gouverneur, passed away on Friday, July 08, 2016 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Martha was born on November 6, 1923 in Gouverneur to the late John A. and Eula M. (Liscum) Willenbacher.
She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1942, then, graduated from Canton College with a certificate in Evening Division.
Martha worked as a bookkeeper for the Tribune Press for 17 years, where she did payroll and bookkeeping. Then, she worked for Gouverneur Talc for 23 years, where she typed up their orders. Martha retired in 1983.
Martha taught Sunday school for 46 years. One Sunday the church dedicated the service to Martha.
She was a member of the 4-H Club and won trips to Ithaca and Albany. She was also a member of the Grange #303; the Gouverneur United Methodist Church; Gouverneur Business Women; she was the assistant superintendant of 4-H at the St. Lawrence County Fair and was a member of the Outlook Club. She enjoyed gardening, loved traveling, collecting pig figurines and lighthouses and she also made jewelry.
There were calling hours for Martha on Thursday from 1p.m. to 2p.m. with her funeral immediately following at 2p.m. in the Brown’s Chapel of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Quick. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Richville. Arrangements were with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Mary W Gorrow
Mary W Gorrow, 95, died on Sunday, May 22, 2016 in Parksville, British Columbia. She had enjoyed the morning in the pleasant sunshine while sitting outdoors. She always thought being close to nature was the very best way to spend time.
Mary and her husband, Bernard J Gorrow, enjoyed 58 years of sharing professional academic goals and thriving in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping throughout the US and western Canada. They loved the west: living in Nebraska, Arkansas, Idaho, South Dakota and then moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and retired in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada. Bernard died in 1999.
Mary was proud to be a registered nurse and always thanked her mother for her support and motivation. Mary graduated from Gouverneur, New York High School at age 16. She began her nursing career at the House of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Watertown, New York at a time when married students were not generally accepted, graduating in 1945. She excelled, and earned her BS from Carroll College in Helena, Montana and her MS from the University of Utah. She was employed at a number of VA hospitals, specialized in psychiatric nursing, and was a faculty member at several schools of nursing.
Mary is survived by her brother John Wranesh (Barbara) in Michigan and sister-in-law Jane Wranesh of Hailesboro, New York. Through the years she had a close relationship with her nieces, Nancy (Bob) Atwood, Astoria, Oregon and Mary Lou (John) Cook, Clinton, New York. She always enjoyed hearing from her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Frances Wranesh, brothers Joe (Georgie) and Mike Wranesh, and sister Lena (Dud) Clayton.
A Celebration of Life was held on July 5th at Halliday House in Parksville, British Columbia. The family would like to thank the staff at Halliday House, Parksville, British Columbia, Canada for their care and caring. Ern and Brad Russell and family were important to her in her later years, and long time neighbor Yvette Edgar was a special friend.
Suzette M. Lane
Suzette M. Lane, age 67, of Harrisville, but formerly of Gouverneur passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at her home.
Suzette was born on October 26, 1948 in Gouverneur to the late Walter J. and Eileen M. (Bradley) Cassaw. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School and went on to Mater Dai College, where she received her Associated Degree. She married David Lane Sr. He passed away in 2009.
Suzette was a technician for the Center For Sight in Watertown for 10 years. She was previously a LPN at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur for about 20 years. She loved swimming, knitting and playing computer games.
Surviving her are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Carrie Lane Jr. of Gouverneur; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tacy Tracey of Watertown and Alyssa and Hank Besaw of Harrisville; a sister, Jeanie Cassaw of Newton Falls and ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Marylou Belmore
Marylou Belmore, 75, of Gouverneur, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at St. Joseph's Home in Ogdensburg.
Funeral services are private with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
Marylou was born in Gouverneur on March 12, 1941, the daughter of Earl and Mabel Nettles Mashaw.
She was a homemaker and provided housekeeping services for several local families. Marylou enjoyed reading, watching television, and taking rides in the countryside.
Marylou is survived by two daughters, Tammy and James Mullin of Gouverneur, Teresa Belmore and Santos Valentin of Midland, TX, a son, Timothy and Keiko Belmore of Mechanicsburg, PA, and a granddaughter Emily Mullin.
She is also survived by a brother Clarence "Porky" Mashaw of Edwards, two sisters Sally Watson of Tennessee, Betty Mashaw of Florida, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Donald, Larry, Thomas, and Herbert William "Billy" Mashaw, sisters Jean Crandall, Eva Evans, and Ruth Noble, and two infant siblings.

Susanne Gail MacTurk
Susanne Gail MacTurk of Gouverneur died June 20, 2016 at home with her family after a long battle with cancer.
She was born May 29, 1950 in Gouverneur, to Charles and Bernice Rice. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1968.
She worked for over 25 years at Gouverneur Talc Company until her retirement in 2008. She loved reading, walking and buying stuff for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, William MacTurk, daughters- Wendy MacTurk and Terri (Frank) DeLucia, grandson Anthony DeLucia, sister Beverly Floyd and brother James Rice.
No calling hours or funeral services will be held.

A graveside service for Shirley Parody, 76, of Gouverneur, will be held, Saturday, July 2 at 10a.m. at Hailesboro Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8 for James E. Jackson (of Sylvia Lake and Monroe, GA) who passed away on March 1, 2016. Family and friends are invited to Gouverneur United Methodist Church for a 2:30 PM service, followed by a committal of his ashes at Riverside East Cemetery.
